‘SUMMER IN SAN FRANCISCO’ OPENS AT JOHN PENCE GALLERY JULY 31

avv/lsb set 7/17 #746113

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — On Thursday, July 31, the John Pence Gallery will open “Summer in San Francisco,” an exhibition of American realist paintings and sculptures on view until August 30.

John Pence Gallery will present a group show of works by 47 artists at the forefront of the resurgence in the American Realist Movement. On view will be more than 60 works, including a stunning array of landscapes, still lifes and figurative work — ranging in size from 7-foot canvases to jewel-like images.

Recent works by artists Michael Bergt, Jacob Collins, Douglas Flynt, David Larned, Dean Larson, Kate Lehman, Edward Minoff, Clark Mitchell, Jacob A. Pfeiffer, Stock Schlueter, Randall Sexton, Chris Thomas, Peter Van Dyck and Anthony Waichulis will be on view. A collection of sculptures will also be included. Sculptors include Donald Davis, John Sisko, Brian Craig Wankiirii and Gary Weisman.

The gallery’s annual “Summer in San Francisco” exhibition brings together veteran exhibitors and fresh new talent whose work appears in San Francisco for the first time. The variety of work to be shown varies widely in terms of subject matter and sizes. Of special interest are an impressive and epic new trompe l’oeil by Tony Curanaj; lush, colorful florals by Sarah Lamb, Will Wilson and Christopher Pierce; figure paintings by newcomer Zack Zdrale; and a preview of the gallery’s Cityscapes show with work by Gregory Gandy and Jeremy Mann.

The classical, contemporary American Realist School is stronger than ever of late and the John Pence Gallery has, for 33 years, served at the movement’s forefront. Many of the artists who are now leaders in American Realism, began and sustained their impressive careers in this large San Francisco space.

The gallery is at 750 Post Street near Union Square. For information 415-441-1138 or www.johnpence.com.
