Great Vibrations

To the Editor:

“Sandy Hook Volunteers Mark A Milestone,” Shannon Hicks’ write-up and photos of the 70th Anniversary party of the Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue celebration [The Bee, June 27] was a treat for the soul. You didn’t have to be there to feel the good and great vibrations; the fun of it all was very evident.

Additionally, the joyful spirit of the evening was founded on the culmination of success, dedicated service, and the ongoing reliance on one another to respond, to donate once again their individual time, skill, and effort to someone else’s emergency. As calculated, an accumulated recorded total of 869 service-years was recognized that evening; many lifetimes.

The volunteers’ willingness to take on personal risk to continuously work to maintain and upgrade their skills and equipment, to raise the funds for it all, and to be “on call” is truly exemplary; beyond “the call.”

Thank you. Thank you, Women’s Auxiliary. The Lobsterfest is icing on our cake.
