Police report that while conducting the SUDS (Stop Underage Drinking) enforcement project on Saturday, July 12, they charged two underage persons with alcohol violations.
Police said they conducted surveillance near Newtown Wine and Spirits, a package store at 113 South Main Street, during which they spotted Joseph Bowen, 19, of 139 Hanover Road, and Steven Vichiola, 20, of Charles Circle enter the package store to obtain alcohol.
Police said they later charged Bowen with misrepresentation of age to buy alcohol, possession of alcohol by a minor, purchase of alcohol by a minor, and third-degree forgery. Police released Bowen on a written promise to appear July 29 in Danbury Superior Court.
Police said they issued Vichiola an infraction ticket on a charge of possession of alcohol by a minor. That ticket carries a $136 fine.
Police said the state Liquor Control Commission will review whether the package store followed proper procedures in the alcohol transaction.
Police said they plan to conduct more SUDS enforcement.
