Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard Announces Trooper Of The Year
The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard (2GHG) announced the recipient of its Trooper of the Year award at an Annual Battalion Review in Norwich this past Sunday. SGT Jacqueline Sundblade, who resides in Naugatuck, received the award from Brigadier General Steven Scorzato, Assistant Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard. This award is given to a Trooper who has clearly demonstrated a high level of dedication and devotion to duty, the ability to demonstrate and live by the Army values and to positively influence unit cohesion, morale and mission success. SGT Sundblade is 2GHG tack sergeant and also heads the committee to run the Troopsâ annual Pleasure Ride and the St. Jude Childrenâs Hospital benefit trail ride. In addition, she volunteers with the therapeutic riding program and is a member of the 2GHG Drill Team. She consistently has high attendance and works above and beyond her duty assignments for the good of the order.
The Annual Review was hosted by the Second Company Governorâs Foot Guard and the Norwich Historical Society Forgotten Founders, an organization that promotes the remembrance of this countryâs founding fathers. The event was a celebration of Samuel Huntington, the first President of the United States under the Articles of Confederation. This celebration is an annual state holiday. Norwich was the home of Huntington and also of the first commander of the 2nd Company Governorâs Foot Guard, Benedict Arnold. Dignitaries present included Brigadier General Scorzato and Attorney General Blumenthal. The program included a wreath laying ceremony and a special religious ceremony by the Mohegan Tribe.
All four militia units attended and performed a military review for Brigadier General Scorzato and the four Militia Commandants: 1GHG Commandant Major William Oefinger, 2GFG Commandant Major Peter Laffin, 1GHG Commandant Major Andrew Arsenault and 2GHG Commandant Major Gordon Johnson.
2GHG is celebrating its 200th year and will host a battalion review for all four units on the New Haven Green on October 4. A Military Ball will also be held the same evening. Visit www.thehorseguard.com.
