Special Puppets At
Sherman Country Fair, July 19
SHERMAN â Hand-made puppets, created by Lene Koerner of Germany, will be part of the magic at the 113th Annual Sherman Church Country Fair on Saturday, July 19. Storyteller Sara Coons of Sherman will spin the tale You Are Special accompanied by a puppet show at 11 am and again at 1 pm.
The artist Lene Koerner, who is now deceased, created marionettes and hand puppets and was a friend of Sherman Church member Helen Bethel. You Are Special, a childrenâs book by Max Lucado, is a tale of a young puppet who thinks he is useless but then finds his true value in the world. Admission to Storytime at the Sherman Church Country Fair is free and open to the public. The puppeteers will be Ben and Marina Scanlon.
The fair, which will be open from 10 am to 3 pm on the grounds of the Sherman Church, 6 Church Road, will also feature a display of heirloom and family quilts in the sanctuary, the famous 25-cent hayride, childrenâs games and horseback rides, nail polishing from 11 am until 1 pm by Marianne Tarby and face-painter Robin Szendy (of Sherman snow sculpture fame). Children may also create something to bring home at the sand art table.
George Baxter will display his miniature antique steam engines; there will be homemade jams and salsa, local vegetables and hand-knitted items for sale; and Helen Taberâs Famous Homemade Lemonade and Hildi & Helenâs Bratwurst Hut will be featured at the fair.
Antiques and collectibles will be on sale at the tag sale in the church basement, and crafters will display their wares for sale on the church grounds.
The church is located off Route 39 just north of Sherman Center. Call the church at 860-354-6114 for further information.
