The Newtown Hawks 10U Blue baseball team completed a perfect 7–0 run through the Connecticut Cal Ripken State Tournament, securing their second consecutive state championship in mid July and earning a trip to the Cal Ripken Regional Tournament in Massachusetts.

Newtown dominated pool play from the outset. The Hawks opened with a 12–0 shutout of the Nonnewaug Nukes, followed by a win via forfeit against Bridgeport. In their third game, the Hawks’ offense erupted for a commanding 22-0 victory over Roberto Clemente, before closing out pool play with a 10-0 shutout win over Bethwood. With four wins — three by mercy rule — and not a single run allowed in their completed games, Newtown entered bracket play as the tournament’s top seed.

In their first elimination game, the Hawks were tested by a resilient New Fairfield squad but pulled away late to secure a 7-5 victory thanks to timely hitting and steady defense in the final innings. Next, they faced Norwalk, earning a solid 8-3 win to advance to the next round.

The tournament’s most dramatic game came in the matchup against rival New Canaan. The teams were tied 3-3 heading into extra innings. Newtown held defensively through the top of the eighth before drawing a bases-loaded walk to earn a 4-3 walk-off win, sending the Hawks into the championship.

In the state title game, the Hawks once again faced Norwalk and battled through a competitive matchup, pulling ahead late to secure a 6–3 victory and complete their undefeated tournament showing.

The state championship run was fueled by balanced hitting, consistent pitching, and solid defense throughout the roster. With back-to-back state titles secured, Newtown advances to the Cal Ripken Regional Tournament, where the Hawks will face top teams from across the Northeast. The tournament is set to begin Saturday, July 19.

The Hawks are made up of players Brayden Andrews, Luke Dobson, Parker Esposito, Jack Fregoe, Grayson Kohlasch, Maverick Levy, Chase Pacuk, James Otis, Baer Rangel, Austin Rekos, Jacob Steeves, and Joey Skura. The team is led by head coach Mark Skura, with assistant coaches Bobby Andrews, Joe Esposito, and Jon Steeves.
