RYE, N.Y. — “Painting the Rye Mill Pond,” a retrospective exhibit by Ellen Liman of oil paintings on canvas and paper, will be featured this summer at the historic Knapp House.

Liman, artist, author and gallery owner, has drawn inspiration from Rye’s historic Kirby Mill Pond for more than two decades, depicting the pond’s natural beauty and surrounding gardens in various styles and seasons. “It changes beautifully and dramatically with the time of day,” Liman noted.

An artist her whole life, Liman studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, the Art Students League, Columbia University and the National Academy of Design. Known for her large and color-filled canvases, her paintings are in many private and corporate collections. She has exhibited at several galleries in New York City, Martha’s Vineyard, Bridgehampton, Nantucket and Palm Beach. A former chairperson of the New York City Advisory Commission for Cultural Affairs and a member of the Westchester Arts Council, Liman is the author and illustrator of books about collecting and design.

The more than 30 works now on display at the Knapp House are all for sale. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Rye Historical Society, which operates the Knapp House. The exhibit will continue through September.

The Knapp House is at One Purchase Street. For information, 914-967-8657.
