Are You Outraged?

To the Editor:

Every day, things are happening in Washington that limit our liberties more and spend taxpayers’ money without limits!

The current bill to extend unemployment benefits again is being proposed by Obama, and the Republicans want it only if it can be paid for. Obama has no concern about who’s paying and adding to the skyrocketing deficit. He just wants to ram it through.

There is a new “Assassination Program,” where “American citizens are targeted for killings far away from any battlefield, based exclusively on unchecked accusations by the executive branch that they are involved in terrorism.” Allegedly, dozens of Americans are on that list who pose a “threat” to America. The decision would be in the hands of a President who tolerates no opposition, even if it is peaceful free speech under the Bill of Rights, as with the peaceful Tea Party Patriots. So if you go to Washington, D.C., on 8/28/10, for the 2010 Restoring Honor Rally at the base of the Lincoln Memorial, and you want restoration of conservative values as opposed to Obama’s Socialism, does that make you a target of a gun? No crimes being done, no Miranda rights, nothing?

There is a bumper sticker that says: “If you are not outraged, you are not paying attention!” Does this describe you?

I can only hope that people get informed and really pay attention to what is happening to this country. Obama thinks most people don’t care about his power grab, so he’s wasting no time ramming things through on his executive power alone, treating the Congress and the citizens as an annoyance in his plan to increase his power.

If this is OK with you, then so be it. But if this worries you, then inform yourself for the upcoming November elections. That may be the last chance to start turning things around — we must elect well-vetted conservative Republicans like Schiff or Greenberg to replace Chris Murphy, District #5, and a smaller-government conservative to replace the infamous Senator Chris Dodd. Please think about it!

Respectfully submitted,

Marybeth Hibbard
