To the Editor:
In the middle of a heat wave in July, the fall election is not the first thing on our minds, but it is certainly on our State Representative Chris Lyddyâs mind as he goes door-to-door to ask us about our concerns and listens to our ideas. He is a modest person, so he spends more time listening to us talk about what we care about than reciting his accomplishments, and there are many. So, it is up to us who support him to praise his virtues.
I support Chris Lyddyâs reelection as our state representative for many reasons, certainly among them are his legislative record; outstanding constituent service; ability to work across the aisle, such as with Senator McKinney to pass legislation to protect our town, i.e., the Hawleyville railroad transfer station problem; or to obtain state aid for Newtown.
Beyond all of those accomplishments a little noticed, but extremely important reason for keeping him our representative, however, is the remarkable relationship-building that he has done in less than two years. I have been involved in local and state government activities for many years and it is amazing how many of the people I know at the state level who also know Chris Lyddy and are impressed with his abilities, in just his first term.
He has the attention of the legislative leaders and the leading candidate for governor, who chose Chris to make one of the three nominating speeches for him at the convention. From firsthand experience, I canât stress enough how important it is for our town to have a person in Hartford who has built the relationships in the legislature and the governorâs office to gain their help whenever we may need it.
Finally, we donât have to guess where Chris stands on the issues that are important to Newtown; education, environment, health care, economy and more. He has been consistent and steadfast in energetically working for us. Please join me in working for and voting for Chris Lyddy for State Representative, 106th District.
Sincerely,
Herb Rosenthal
