Cancer Society Kick It Motorcycle Ride To Give Cancer The Boot
Motorcycles of all makes and models will help rev up the fight against cancer on Sunday, September 21, during the Sixth Annual American Cancer Societyâs Kick It Motorcycle Ride.
Starting at Danbury Fair, 7 Backus Drive in Danbury, and finishing in Indian Well State Park on Route 110 in Shelton, this grassroots fundraiser draws hundreds of motorcyclists across the tri-state area, including Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven Counties, to help raise cancer awareness, honor cancer survivors, and support the American Cancer Societyâs lifesaving research and patient support programs.
âThe American Cancer Society depends on events like this to fund its lifesaving research and its support network for cancer patients, which includes our toll-free information line and website, free wigs, free transportation to-and-from treatment, and one-on-one support groups,â said American Cancer Society Development Associate Robin Flay.
In 2007, the event grew to include nearly 600 registered bikes and 800 participants, including 50 cancer survivors, and raised more than $40,000. In its five-year history, the Kick It Ride has raised more than $100,000 to support the American Cancer Society.
With state and local police escorts, riders will follow Routes 7, 33 and 1 through Danbury, Ridgefield, Wilton, Westport, Redding, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, and Shelton.
Registration at Danbury Fair will run from 8:30 to 10 am and the ride will begin at 10:30. Participants may register as an individual driver for $25 or as a passenger for $15. Participants may also register as a team with a minimum of two team members.
The event will includes a barbeque picnic at the park from 1:30 to 3 pm along with a performance by The Hollister Thompson Band.
All types of motorcycles are welcome. Cancer survivors will receive a Survivorsâ Flag for their motorcycles.
Volunteers are also needed to help with registration, cooking, serving, set up, or cleanup on the day of the event.
