Newtown Gladiators 9, Newtown Tornadoes 8 — Dylan Tyrell hit the game-winning single, one of three hits in the game, to plate Robert Katrinak in the bottom half of the sixth inning to cap a two-run rally. The Gladiators rallied back from deficits three times during the game. In the second inning, the Gladiators scored four times to grab a 4-2 lead on a sacrifice by Katrinak, and back-to-back RBI doubles by Tyrrell and Matt Campbell. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Spencer Johnson led off the inning with a single to left, stole second base and scored on a single by Katrinak who later scored on a triple by Tyrrell. The scoring was completed on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nick Lametto. After surrendering the lead and giving up three runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Gladiators answered with two runs of their own on a clutch RBI hit by Colin Patrick, second hit of the game, and the game-winning hit by Tyrrell. Third baseman Jack Riley threw two runners out at first and second baseman Daniel Pearson threw two runners out at first.
