Herbert R. âHappyâ Bistany, 90, of Sandy Hook and previously of Yonkers, N.Y., died July 20 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Nademie âMickeyâ (Simrany) Bistany.
Mr Bistany was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on September 6, 1917, a son of Richard and Mary (Hajj) Bistany. As a child, he moved to Beirut, Lebanon, where he received his education at the American University. Following his return to Yonkers, âHappyâ was employed for many years at Anaconda Wire and Cable Company, retiring as a supervisor in the electrical testing lab.
A resident of Sandy Hook for nine years, he was able to enjoy a long and fruitful life after retirement. Mr Bistany was an avid hunter, fisherman, and amateur photographer.
In addition to his wife of more than 68 years, survivors include two daughters, Barbara Kasbarian and her husband, Fred, of Newtown and Carol Bistany of Sandy Hook; a granddaughter, Terri Gibbons and her husband, Bob, and their children, Megan and Jessica; and two grandsons, Rick Kasbarian, and Bill Kasbarian and his wife, Sara, and their children, Austin, Ayden, and Alexander.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, July 23. Interment in St Rose Cemetery will be private.
