Hunting And Gathering: Why We Collect
Hunting And Gathering:
Why We Collect
BROOKFIELD â Brookfield Craft Center has begun offering a new series of free public forums this summer entitled âThe Craft Continuum.â Designed to connect local artists with the general public, the monthly lectures and discussions are held in the centerâs circa 1780 restored grist mill building located on Route 25.
On Wednesday, August 6, at 6 pm, Margaret Clement Green will lead the next discussion, called âHunting and Gathering, or why we collect.â
Some of the topics discussed will include what compels people to bend down and pick up a particular shell on the beach, or a pinecone in the woods, or a piece of tin in the street as a memory of that day? Discussions will concern collecting and what motivates collectors. Ms Green will also encourage attendees to tell the group about any collections they may have.
Margaret (âMuffieâ) Green is a BCC board member and longtime BCC student. She has worked as a graphic artist and loves paper and book arts.
According to Brookfield Craft Center Education Director, Kristin Muller, who created the series, âThe Craft Continuum will provide a chance for artists associated with our school to share their art and its influences with other artists and the general public in a relaxed casual setting. These informal artist forums will involve slide shows, discussions and displays of the artistâs current work. The point is to bring together our creative community to exchange ideas and foster growth in the culture of fine craftsmanship.â
The goal of the series is to provide inspiring looks at the current creative initiatives by some of the regionâs most fascinating artists, said Ms Muller.
Refreshments will be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring treats to share.
