This debut brochure for the state agency includes more than 120 on-farm retail outlets for everything Connecticut-grown from fruits and vegetables through meats, dairy products, cut flowers, garden plants, and more.
Small enough to tuck into a glove compartment or briefcase, the pamphlet lists venues by county and provides product availability information through easy-to-use, at-a-glance product abbreviations. Other information listed includes farm stand location; seasons and hours of operation; and contact information including phone number, e-mail, and website, if applicable.
âWe are very excited to be able to offer this information as the latest in our family of consumer brochures,â said Connecticut Commissioner of Agriculture F. Philip Prelli. âWe have wanted to provide this listing for a long time and are so pleased that this year we have had the resources to compile and publish it for residents of Connecticut, as well as for visitors to our beautiful state.â
The project was made possible through funding from USDAâs Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, which covered design and printing costs of the brochure. Inclusion in the brochure was free and open to all farm stands and stores throughout the state through a simple one-page application, which was widely distributed to agricultural producers as well as posted on the state Department of Agricultureâs website.
The new brochure is being distributed to the 169 town halls and libraries across the state, county extension and USDA offices, and to Connecticut Welcome Centers along Interstates 95 and 84. It also is available electronically at www.CTGrown.gov (click on Publications at the top of the page for a link to a PDF printout).
