Adopt A Dog From The Pound

Theo, Winston Russell, and Max are among the dogs are available for adoption from the Newtown pound, which is located at the end of Ethan Allen Road (behind the transfer station).

Pound Kennel Keeper Matthew Schaub says prospective adopters are often turned off by the animals which react to strangers by barking while in their cages. Schaub points out that the dogs initially react to the kennel keepers the same way but calm down and become playful companions after a little time and patience on the part of the kennel keepers. In a video on our Features webpage, at NewtownBee.com, Schaub shows how friendly the seemingly aggressive dogs can be once given a chance. Check out the video for a virtual visit the pound.

THEO is a 1-2-year-old neutered male Pit bull. He has striking black and white markings and is very energetic. Since Theo has been impounded, he has made huge improvements in training. He is a goofball who loves to be around people. The best home for Theo would be one without other dogs or cats. Theo’s training will most likely need to be continued in his new home but he has a lot of potential. He has shown signs of heavy abuse and still manages to improve in many ways. Theo has grown on the staff very quickly.

If you wish to adopt, please call Newtown Animal Control at 203-426-6900 or Canine Advocates at 203-426-5327.

Canine Advocates of Newtown, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer group, raises funds to spay/neuter and provide shots against DHLPP and rabies for all of the Newtown Pound cats and dogs. CAN also provides a free training DVD and Beyond Obedience Dog Training offers one free individual training lesson to adopters.
