Horse Guard Announces Annual Show Winners

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) hosted its annual fundraising Horse Show at the 2GHG facility at Fairfield Hills on July 25.

The Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association and the Connecticut Horse Shows Association recognize the show. Forty-two riders participated in classes, including English, Western, Hunter, Pleasure, Equitation, Lead line and Driving.

Major Gordon Johnson was the Chairperson and 2LT Jennifer Mazzara was the show manager. The judges were Ann Izzo and Ann Jamieson, the Steward was Kathy DeSantis, and the Announcer was Kris Scuccimarra. Trophies were awarded to three riders: The Governor’s Cup — awarded to the highest scoring Modified Adult Hunter — went to Elizabeth Sacksteader riding Saint Slewie Blue; the Town of Newtown Perpetual Trophy — awarded to the highest scoring Short Stirrup Rider — went to Caroline Winicki on Zaire; and the Adjutant General’s Award — awarded to the highest scoring Children’s Hunter — went to Erin Sullivan riding Zephyr.

Division Championship winners included:   

*Adult English Pleasure - Alyssa Segala on Left My Injun Runnin.

*Open Color Pleasure and CHSA Open Western Pleasure - Kathryn Roy on Lots of Dots.

*Junior English Pleasure - Rachel Roy on Make a Wish.

*Open Pleasure Driving and Open Carriage Pleasure Driving - Richard Jones and UC Olympic Star.

*Walk Trot Pleasure - Johnny Harrar on Mac.

*Lead line - Mia Branfon on Tristan.

*Quarter Horse Hunter U/S - Jody Bowles on Fourteen Carat Art.

The Horse Show is a fundraising event for the Troop. The 2GHG is a 100 percent volunteer state militia unit, serving the Governor and the State of Connecticut under the direction of the Connecticut National Guard. It is one of the oldest cavalry units in continuous service in the United States and members are dedicated to preserving Cavalry traditions.
