Mailbox Mayhem

Police report a spate of mailbox vandalism along Rose Lane in Sandy Hook.

Someone sometime overnight on June 21/22, removed from their curbside locations about a half dozen mailboxes that were still attached to their supporting posts, police said.

The vandal or vandals then dumped the mailboxes onto the ground. It is unlikely that the mailboxes contained any mail considering the time of day of the incident, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the criminal mischief to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Alcohol Charge

Police report they received a call about 1:06 am on July 21 reporting the presence of a suspicious motor vehicle in the area of 140 Hattertown Road, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they encountered a small gathering of people there.

After investigating, police said they issued Amanda Agius, 20, of 140 Hattertown Road an infraction ticket on a charge of possession of alcohol by a minor on private property. The ticket which bears a $136 fine is appealable in court.

Hawleyville Vandalism

Sometime between 4:30 pm on July 20, and 5 am on July 21, someone entered the Shepaug Reload section of the Housatonic Railroad Company’s property at 30 Hawleyville Road (Route 25) and vandalized the premises, police report.

Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Warrant

Police report that early on the morning of July 24, they charged Chynna Smith, 19, of 2 Joan Drive on a warrant alleging three criminal offenses in connection with her reporting a burglary incident on May 3.

Police said they charged Smith with falsely reporting an incident, second-degree making of a false statement, and misuse of a 911 emergency call.

Police released Smith on a written promise to appear in court on August 5.

Big Y

At about 4:09 pm on July 22, police responded to the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street after receiving a shoplifting complaint from store personnel.

After investigating, police charged Kim Clomiro, 47, of 38 Mt Nebo Road with sixth-degree larceny.

Clomiro was released on a written promise to appear August 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Lake Road Vandalism

Police are investigating three incidents of criminal mischief in the Lake Road area.

On July 22, police learned that someone had vandalized a lighting fixture attached to a stone wall at 24 Lake Road. Also, police learned that someone had vandalized curbside residential mailboxes at #2 and #10 Lake Road.

Police ask anyone with information on the property damage to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Three Violations

While on patrol about 5 pm July 23, police stopped motorist Valcir Alves Santos, 44, of Danbury on Mt Pleasant Road near its intersection with The Old Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Santos with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Santos was released on a written promise to appear in court on August 5.

Fast Driving

Police report they stopped motorist Omar Summa, 27, of Fairfield about 9:23 am July 23 near 31 Swamp Road in Botsford for driving 60 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone. Police charged Summa with speeding and with driving with a suspended license.

Summa was released on a written promise to appear in court on August 5.

Graffiti

Police received a report from a passerby on July 24 that someone had placed graffiti on a retaining alongside Echo Valley Road, near Cavanaugh Pond. Police ask anyone with information on the vandalism to contact them at 203-426-5841.

South Main Crash

 Motorist Steven Ray, 48, of Dayton, Ohio, who was driving a 2010 Dodge Caliber sedan southward on South Main Street about 8:50 am July 15, stopped for a southbound noncontact vehicle ahead of him that was making a left turn onto a side street, police said.

Southbound motorist Jason Sartori, 43, of Dover Plains, N.Y., who was driving a 2010 Honda Accord sedan, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Sartori a written warning for following too closely.

 

Acura Vs Rock

Motorist Cheryl Jimmie, no age given, of Monroe was driving a 1997 Acura CL coupe northward on Hattertown Road, near its intersection with Saddle Ridge Road, about 9:40 am July 23, when the auto struck a rock, damaging a tire, according to police. Jimmie was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Chevrolet Vs GMC

About 12:30 pm on July 23, motorist James Carey, 73, of Pennsylvania, who was driving a 2006 GMC southward on South Main Street, just south of Ethan Allen Road, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Jessica Carretta, 26, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet, according to police.

There were no injuries. Botsford firefighters responded to the accident. Carretta received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Interstate Crash

Motorist Emily Gabor, 20, of Woodcliff Lake, N.J., who was driving a 2005 Toyota Prius westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 5:50 am July 26, struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Gabor was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

I-84 Accident

Motorist Lisa Roberts, 34, of New Hartford, who was driving a 2008 Acura RDX SUV at the Exit 9 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 about 6 pm July 23, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Richelle Vincenti, 32, of Westbrookville, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus sedan, state police said.

Roberts reported pain but refused medical attention, state police said. Vicenti received an infraction for following too closely, according to state police.

Motorcycle Incident

State police report that motorcyclist Vincent Meli, 54, of Methuen, Mass., was riding a 1985 Harley-Davidson FXRT Sport Glide in the center lane of three lanes on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, at about 11:25 am July 21, when an unknown tractor-trailer truck driver changed lanes from the right lane to the left lane.

While trying to avoid being hit by the truck, Meli lost control of the motorcycle and fell to the ground, state police said. Meli was helmeted and was wearing high-visibility clothing at the time, state police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Meli to Danbury Hospital to be treated for multiple abrasions, state police said.

The trucker who caused the accident was not found, state police said.

Moving Violations

Police report that at about 6:51 pm on July 25, they stopped motorist Christopher Sobotka, 43, of 28 Buttonball Drive for a minor motor vehicle violation near 11 Queen Street.

After investigating, police charged Sobotka with failure to wear a seatbelt and driving with a suspended license.

Police released Sobotka on a written promise to appear on August 10 in Danbury Superior Court.

Ford Vs Honda

Police report a two-vehicle accident at an intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Blackman Road about 4:43 pm July 20.

Motorist Charissa Klein, 52, of 8 Whitewood Road was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan southward on Mt Pleasant Road and then stopped and signaled to make left turn onto Blackman Road, police said.

Motorist Frank Gavel, 47, of 14 Willow Brook Lane, who was driving a 2007 Ford Explorer SUV southward on Mt Pleasant Road, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the scene. Police issued Gavel an infraction for following too closely.

Vandalism

Police are investigating a string of vandalism incidents that occurred about 1 am on July 29 in the Horseshoe Ridge Road/Old Farm Hill Road residential neighborhoods.

The offenders damaged mailboxes and various other items in the area, police said.
