*Newtown residents and fellow NYC escapees Darryl Gregory (local singer songwriter) and David Wheeler (Flagpole Radio Café) decided to form a songwriter’s circle last summer to stir their creative juices and strengthen their songwriting chops. The circle is intended to be a forum to present new song material and get constructive feedback from other songwriters.

This weekend the pair — along with Chris Belden of Ridgefield and Jamie Daruwala of Bethel — is taking that process on the road, to Ridgefield Library for a program that will be one part concert and one part songwriter’s circle.

The program will be Saturday, July 31, from 2 to 3 pm, and will include live music and banter. All are invited to watch and even join in as the musicians share their process with the public.

The library is at 472 Main Street, and the program is part of Ridgefield Library’s Make a Splash Read! summer reading program.

Contact Lesley Lambton at 203-438-2282 or lalambton@ridgefieldlibrary.org for additional information.

*GORILLAZ fans, your time has finally come. A three-month “Escape To Plastic Beach” world tour will include the band’s first ever stop at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford this autumn.

The North American leg of a highly anticipated world tour will begin in Canada at Montreal’s Bell Centre on October 3 with a 19-date stretch winding up on November 3 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The tour’s routing takes the animated band through Connecticut on October 5; tickets will be going on sale in two weekends, on Saturday, August 13.

I don’t have ticket prices for you this week, but information is being updated regularly (hourly, according to a press release earlier this week) at gorillaz.com, follow the band’s own Murdoc Niccals at www.twitter.com/murdocgorillaz, or check out the Gorillaz YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/gorillaz.

Tickets will be available through Live Nation (LiveNation.com) when the are put up for sale.

*Meanwhile, back in the current weekend HAT CITY will be playing at LumberYard Pub… really!

The band’s show scheduled for last weekend will — god willing, of course — go on this weekend as long as there isn’t another power outage to change the plans. The guys will be at 2 Main Street in the Georgetown section of West Redding on Saturday, July 31, starting around 9:15. Percussionist Dick Hermenze will be joining Hat City as a special guest.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
