Songwriter’s Circle Will Offer An Inside Look At The Creative Music Process

RIDGEFIELD — Newtown residents and fellow NYC escapees Darryl Gregory (local singer songwriter) and David Wheeler (Flagpole Radio Café) decided to form a songwriter’s circle last summer to stir their creative juices and strengthen their songwriting chops. The circle is intended to be a forum to present new song material and get constructive feedback from other songwriters.

“We meet once a month at one of the members’ houses,” said Mr Gregory. “Bring something to munch on and a few beers. Then we pull out the guitars and our notebooks and play the songs we’ve been writing. All four of us have been writing songs for a long time and so we know what to listen for and how to critique so that it helps the writer.”

Fellow circle member Chris Belden of Ridgefield has suggested that the circle share its process with the public, noting that not many people understand the creative process that goes into writing and crafting a song.

With that in mind, the trio has scheduled a concert/songwriter’s circle to take place this weekend at Ridgefield Library. Singer-songwriters Chris Belden, Darryl Gregory and David Wheeler will be joined by Jamie Daruwala of Bethel to trade songs and swap bon-mots about songwriting, inspiration and creativity in general.

The program will be Saturday, July 31, from 2 to 3 pm, and will include live music and banter. All are invited.

The library is at 472 Main Street, and the program is part of Ridgefield Library’s Make a Splash Read! summer reading program.
