Who Pays The Price For

‘Staff Development’

To the Editor:

Is anyone else out there concerned about the schools letting out early one day per month for “staff development”?

Did the Board of Ed consider the cost to the parents for child care — not all households have a “stay-at-home” parent who can be available for early dismissal. In fact, in this economy, most families probably need to have two wage earners to get by. How can the board unilaterally decide to do this without parental input? Why can’t the teachers attend their “staff development” after hours, like many other businesses do?
