National Night Out Is A Great Chance For The Community
Newtown’s 2025 participation in National Night Out will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Tuesday, August 5, at the Newtown Community Center.
The event will be a chance to meet local police and fire personnel, enjoy family friendly activities, and connect with neighbors.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, US territories, and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August.
According to the National Night Out website, natw.org, “National Night Out was introduced in August of 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.”
In Newtown, there will be a DJ with dancing, face painting and crafts, K-9 demonstrations, emergency vehicle exploration, a bounce house, giveaways, food trucks, and a chance to dunk a first responder in a dunk tank. This year’s event will feature a wide range of community agencies, including Newtown Prevention Partnership, Newtown Center for Support and Wellness, Animal Control, and many others. Organizers are also proud to welcome representatives from the DEA, the US Army National Guard, and various town first responder agencies.
The National Night Out program has been going on for 42 years and is a great way for the community to connect with the always stellar Newtown Police Department and interact with their personnel, as well as other safety groups. We hope the event has a great turnout to remind folks of what a wonderful community Newtown has, and promote neighborhood camaraderie. We encourage all Newtown residents to attend the event, which has become a fun-filled tradition in Newtown.
