Sarah Carlson Casey

Longtime Newtown Resident

Sarah Carlson Casey, 81, of Heritage Village, Southbury, and formerly of Newtown, died July 31 in Danbury Hospital. Mrs Casey was the wife of the late Kenneth W. Casey, Sr. She was born in Danbury on December 10, 1925, a daughter of John A. and Susan (Beers) Carlson.

Sarah was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1942. Following high school, she went to work as a secretary for the Lee Hat Company in Danbury. Later, she went to work at the D.M. Read Department Store in Bridgeport before taking time off to raise her family. After raising her own children, she went on to become a day care provider for children. Mrs Casey loved children and sharing their stories with everyone. She thoroughly enjoyed all her grandchildren and always had a story to tell.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and as a girl she sang in the choir.

Mrs Casey is survived by her children, Kenneth W. Casey, Jr, of Southbury, Mary Elizabeth Hill of Sykesville, Md., William T. Casey and his wife, Pamela, of Boxford, Mass., and Debra Casey Jones and her husband, Jay, of Denton, Md.; nine grandchildren, Patrick, Joey, Sarah, Lindsay, Caitlyn, Tyler, Jay, Zachary, and Casey; as well as one great-granddaughter, Makenna. She is also survived by two nieces, Susan Dayton of North Carolina and Martha Dayton of Southbury; and one nephew, John Rohleder of Trumbull; as well as many loving friends and family members. A sister, Elizabeth Carlson Rohleder, predeceased Mrs Casey.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 3, at 11 am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery. Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Thursday, August 2, from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
