Stamp Collecting Festival Returning

EAST HARTFORD — “Collection Building” will be the theme of the next Connecticut Stamp Collecting Festival, which will be held at East Hartford Sheraton from 10 to 4 on Sunday, August 13; parking and admission are free.

In addition to the individual stamps and sets typically found at stamp shows, the Connecticut Stamp Collecting Festival is known for buying and selling bulk lots. “Collection Building” can involve buying a starter collection, and old album and a large packet of stamps, or a big box or trunk filled with thousands of stamps and covers (as collectors call old envelopes).

The emphasis is on “the thrill of the hunt” and the prospect of discovering overlooked value, hundreds of additions to a current collection, or enough material to start a whole new collection.

At the August 13 show more than 40 tables will be filled with stamps, covers and postcards. Material ranges from early 19th Century stampless covers to the newest stamp issues from around the world.
