Sideswiped Two Vehicles
Newtown Police report Olivia Hankins, 18, of Aynor, SC, operating a 2013 Cadillac ATS, left a driveway on Silver Brook Lane to travel eastbound at 11:54 pm July 17. An unoccupied 2018 Subaru Impreza owned by Rance Thompson of Newtown and 2008 Ford F150 owned by Kevin Terifay of Sandy Hook were parked on the eastbound shoulder of Silver Brook Lane. Hankins sideswiped both vehicles.
No injuries were reported. All three vehicles were towed.
Hankins was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Unsafe Left Turn
Newtown Police report Tara Bassett, 49, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Lexus UX, was traveling southbound on Oakview Road, stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Wasserman Way. Haley Perry, 42, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Audi SQ5, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way. Bassett attempted to turn left onto Wasserman Way and Perry’s vehicle struck her vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Bassett was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
Struck Embankment
Newtown Police report Nachman Segal, 28, of Brooklyn, NY, operating a 2025 Chevrolet Suburban, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 2:05 am July 20. While attempting to negotiate a curve in the road, Segal lost control and went off the roadway and shoulder before striking an embankment.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Segal was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Collision In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Sheilah O’Donnell, 74, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Volvo S60, was traveling eastbound in the parking lot of 12 Berkshire Road. Kristy Lyon, 46, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Chevrolet K1500 Suburban, was traveling northbound in the same lot. O’Donnell turned left in front of Lyon’s vehicle and the two vehicles collided.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
Rear Ended On Mt Pleasant
Newtown Police report Ricky Gordon, 69, of New York, NY, operating a 2020 BMW, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 4:27 pm July 24. Rosa Dasilva, 45, of Bethel, operating a 2023 GMC Sierra, was stopped in traffic northbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Gordon rear ended Dasilva’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Gordon was issued a written warning for following too close.
Failure To Grant Right Of Way
Newtown Police report Ramapriya Vidhun, 54, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Acura MDX, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road at 5:43 pm July 25. Brian Bertram, 30, of New Milford, operating a 2010 Ford F150, was traveling northbound on Hawleyville Road. Vidhun attempted to make a left turn onto the on ramp for Interstate 84 east and her vehicle collided with Bertram’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
Vidhun was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Jonathan Meneses, 31, of Newtown, operating a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:22 pm July 25. He was traveling behind a 2010 Lexus ES operated by Ram Talreja, 81, of Danbury. Meneses rear-ended Talreja’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Meneses was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Fender Bender At Restaurant
Newtown Police report John Kracen, 78, of Bridgewater, operating a 2016 GMC Sierra, was backed into a marked parking space in the lot of Maplewood at Newtown at 12:03 pm July 26. An unoccupied 2008 Acura MDX owned by Suscal Services LLC of Danbury was parked in an adjacent spot. While pulling out of the spot, Kracen’s vehicle hit the Acura.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Weapons Charge For BB Gun
Newtown Police report that an officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue near Pearl Street after observing several motor vehicle violations at 8:49 pm July 26. During the stop, a search of the vehicle was performed. A BB pistol that resembles a Glock Model 19 pistol was located with a magazine inserted in a holster inside of the unsecured center console of the vehicle. The BB pistol was found to be the same size and weight as a Glock pistol, and bore the same markings and controls as a legitimate firearm. The BB pistol had no marks, such as an orange colored barrel tip, that would distinguish it from being a legitimate firearm.
Moises Galeas, 28, of New Haven, was taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, misuse of registration plates, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and improper tail light.
Galeas was released on a $5,000 bond with a court date of August 5 in Danbury Superior Court.
