SNAPSHOT: Terry Pfeiffer

Occupation: I am the pastor of the Newtown United Methodist Church. I have

been a minister since 1963.

How Long Been in Newtown: I have been a resident for 6 years. We moved here

from Fairfield.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: There are a lot of young couples with young

children moving into town. There is a growing number of new homes.

Family: My wife, Margey, and I have been married for nine years. We have four

children, her two children, David Hale, 34, and Karen Hale, 32, and my two

children, Douglas Pfeiffer, 26, and Michael Pfeiffer, 20. David has a film

making company in Manhattan, Karen is a police officer in New Haven, Michael

is a junior at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and Douglas teaches

English at Columbia University and is working on his doctorate degree.

Hobbies: I like anything outdoors. I like to walk a lot. I like hiking, bike

riding, watching bird and animal life, canoeing and fishing. It's fun to catch

fish. We catch them and then let them go.

Books: I love to read. I read work-related commentaries on scripture. I also

like to read books by Madelyn L'Engle. Also, I like to read books by the late

author Father Henri Nouwen, a Catholic priest and professor, who wrote very

insightful books, such as The Wounded Healer. We love to go to movies. We love

Edmond Town Hall. It is a wonderful resource for the community. I also enjoy

going to concerts, plays, operas, and ballets. I enjoy both classical and

popular music but lean toward classical. I love anything related to geology,

and also enjoy going to museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Organizations: I am a member of the Newtown Clergy Association.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Lake Groton State Forest in Groton, Vt. We rent a

cottage there every summer. That's our favorite place. Everyone in the family

loves it. A state naturalist leads programs there, and I think we have gone to

every one of them.

Philosophy: To love God with the whole heart, mind, soul, and strength and to

love your neighbor as yourself. To show common courtesy, respect, and kindness

and to treat people fairly. To enjoy my life and the people around me.
