William Boylan
William F. Boylan, 71, father of Patricia C. Ryan of Sandy Hook, died August
25, after a three-month bout with cancer. He was the husband of Eileen Boylan
of Florida and Bronxville, N.Y.
He was a major in the Marine Corps, and later a policeman in New York City. He
had, at one time, also lived in Crestwood, N.Y.
Survivors also include four other children, William Boylan of White Plains,
N.Y., Terry Banta of Satellite Beach, Fla., Michael Boylan of Scottsdale,
Ariz., and John Boylan of Manhasset, N.Y.; ten grandchildren; a brother Donald
Boylan of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister, Mary Gleason of Bronxville, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on September 16, at St Teresa's Chapel
at Maryknoll, N.Y., by his brother-in-law Father John O'Brien.

Muriel Scovil
Muriel Fraser Scovil, formerly of Heritage Village, Southbury, died July 27,
in Altoona, Fla. She was the wife of the late A. Earle Scovil.
Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Helen Sweezy and
Charles Edward Fraser. She lived for many years in Montclair, N.J.
She attended Pratt Institute. She was a homemaker and mother of three
children, Richard K. Scovil of Umatilla, Fla., Charles E. Scovil of Stamford,
and Jean S. Smith of McGaheysville, Va., formerly of Sandy Hook. She is also
survived by nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs Scovil enjoyed sports. She played tennis for many years, then took up
golf. She was a life member of the High Toppers of the Pine Meadows Golf Club
in Eustis, Fla.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service was held at the Pine Meadows Golf
Club on August 1.
Juliet Dubret
Juliet A. Dubret, 101, formerly of Newtown, died August 28 at Pope John Paul
II Health Care Center in Danbury. She had lived in Putnam Towers, Danbury.
Born in Switzerland, July 31, 1894, she was a daughter of Julius and Albertine
Dubret. Raised in Newtown, she attended the local schools, and later moved to
Danbury.
She owned and operated a beauty salon in New York City for many years.
She is survived by a niece, June Mazurkewicz of Cornwall Bridge; six nephews,
Louis Dubret of Lake George, N.Y., Norman Dubret of Milford, Wesley Peck of
Florida, Richard Peck of Gloversville, N.Y., Robert Peck of South Britain, and
Kenneth Peck of Newtown.
Services were conducted the morning of August 31, from Honan Funeral Home,
Newtown, to a Mass of Christian Burial at St Rose Church.
Francis Saidis
Francis "Frank" J. Saidis of Carlisle, Pa., father of Peggy M. Baiad of
Newtown, died August 28 at his home. He was the husband of Margaret "Peg" C.
Smith Saidis.
Mr Saidis was born in Yonkers, N.Y., January 31, 1916, a son of the late Adam
M. and Mary Yankowski Saidis. He graduated from Manhattan Prep School, New
York, and Manhattan College with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
He was the retired president of Saidis Textile Products Inc. in Carlisle. He
was also former director of manufacturing for Alexander Smith and Sons in
Yonkers, N.Y., assistant to the president of Olson Rug Company in Chicago,
Ill, and was the former foreign manager of operations for C.H. Masland and
Sons in Japan.
He was a member of St Patrick's Knights of Columbus and Shamrocks Club. He was
also a member of AARP in Carlisle.
He is also survived by three sons, Francis J. Saidis, Jr, of Atlanta, Ga.,
Robert C. Saidis of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Michael D. Saidis of Malvern, Pa.;
eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the morning of August 31 in St
Patrick's Shrine Church, Carlisle, Pa. with the Father Andrew J. Fontanella
officiating. Burial will be in St Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
Ewing Brothers Funeral Home of Carlisle is in charge of the arrangements.
Grace Szarka
Grace Szarka, 88, mother of Zoltan Szarka of Sandy Hook, died August 24, at
the Hewitt Memorial Hospital in Shelton, after a long illness. She was the
widow of Louis Szarka.
Born in Nyirvasvari, Hungary, August 3, 1907, she was the daughter of the late
George and Marta Nagy Simics.
She is also survived by two daughters, Grace Hennessey of Ansonia, and Judith
Szarka of Shelton; two sisters in Hungary; six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one grandson, Joseph D'Agostino,
Jr.
Services were held August 28, from the Hylwa-Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home,
Ansonia, with the Reverend Greg Schmidt of Shelton Congregational Church
officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.

Stanley Staples
Stanley M. Stples, 80, a retired supply clerk for the US government, died
August 26 at his home at Diamond Drive, Newtown. He was the husband of
Elizabeth Ropke Staples, and had been a Newtown resident for 19 years.
Mr Staples was born on October 4, 1914, in Haverhill, Mass., a son of Charles
and Mary Murphy Staples. He was a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy,
where he received captain's papers to sail tall ships.
Before his retirement, he had worked as a supplies clerk for the US government
at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
He was a Merchant Marine veteran of WWII.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, Charles Clinton Staples of
Florida; a sister, Helen Moody of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown,
is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Cremation
will take place at Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport.
Betty Sue Linderman
Betty Sue Linderman, 66, of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown, died August 26, at her
home. She was the wife of the late Milton J. Linderman.
Mrs Linderman was born in Yonkers, N.Y., August 28, 1928, a daughter of Jerome
and Julia Friedman Kopper.
She was a resident of Newtown since 1976, she formerly resided in Trumbull for
many years. Before retirement, she was employed as a secretary for Dr Kimball
and Dr Helfer, Danbury optometrists.
She is survived by two daughters, Melissa B. Graves and Mindy Linderman, both
of Naugatuck; a brother, Joseph Kopper of Stockbridge, Mass., two nieces; and
a great-nephew.

There are no calling hours.
Graveside services were held August 29, in Newtown Village Cemetery.

Genevieve Rees
Genevieve C. Rees, 77, wife of the late Selectman M. Frederick Rees, of
Hanover Road, Newtown, died August 25, at Bethel Health Care Center.
Mrs Rees was born in Olean, N.Y., March 24, 1918, a daughter of Frank and Mary
Hammond Clark.
She graduated from Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and
had lived in Newtown since 1943.
She is survived by two sons, Frederick Rees of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Peter
Rees of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Nancy Gaffney of Pittsboro, N.C.; and four
grandchildren.
Arrangements are by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16, at 3 pm, in St John's
Church, Sandy Hook. Cremation was at Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport.
Percy Bailey
Percy C. Bailey, 70, of Sandy Hook, died August 23, in Danbury Hospital. He
was the husband of Nancy Luf Bailey.
Born in Bridgeport, October 14, 1924, he attended Harding High School. He
served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a retired truck driver for
McLean Trucking Company of Dayton Street, Sandy Hook.
He has been a resident of Sandy Hook for the past 43 years.
He is also survived by four daughters, Lois Stewart of Ridgefield, Sharon
Faulkner of Grottius, Va., Ruth Swift and Linda Bailey, both of Sandy Hook;
his father-in-law, Arthur Luf of Milford; a brother, Ernest Bailey of
Hartford; three sisters, Evelyn Klaoster of South Springs, Fla., Betty Bernard
of Stratford, and Mabel Kelly of Huntington; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held August 27 at the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
Cremation was in Mountain Grove Crematory.

Mary Sears
Mary Alma Legere Sears, 72, mother of Dora Murphy of Newtown, died August 28,
in St Vincent's Medical Center.
Born in Lynn, Mass, she was a long-time Fairfield resident. She was a retired
inspector for Avco-Lycoming.
She is survived by seven children, Robert Sears, Jr, of Bridgeport, Joan
Geragosian of Fairfield, Betty Gabriel of Trumbull, Barbara Verikas of
Shelton, Linda Sears and Sharon Rodriques, both of Bridgeport, and Mary
Nielson of Dallas, Texas; one brother, William Legere, Jr, of Devon; several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Shaughnessey Brothers Funeral Home, Fairfield, is in charge of
arrangements.
Services and burial will be private. It was requested that calling hours be
omitted.

Marilyn Clark
Mrs Marilyn Brickett Clark, 47, aunt of Muriel Fletcher of Sandy Hook, died
August 28, in Bridgeport Hospital. She was the wife of Maurice Clark of
Stratford.
Born in Ansonia, she was a resident of Stratford for 12 years.
Mrs Clark was the director of Cuddle Corner Day Care Center, and was former
Assistant Director of Helen King Reynolds Nursery School, Stratford; former
director of Day Care at Astoria Park Health Care Center, Bridgeport. She was a
member of the Connecticut Family Day Care Association Network, and the Early
Childhood Resource Council of Stratford.
Survivors also include a son, Joel Clark; a dear friend, Nicole Carriero of
Stratford; a daughter, Robin Clark of Stratford; three brothers Eugene
Brickett of Guilford, David Brickett of Florida, and Paul Hoyt of Portsmouth,
Rhode Island; four sisters, Shirley Tucker of Oxford, Eileen Brickett of
Naugatuck, Carol Cesarek of West Paris, Me., and Sharon Parese of Florida;
several nieces and nephews, and dear friends, Wally Fletcher of Seattle,
Wash., Muriel Fletcher of Sandy Hook, Glenne Fletcher-Hoban of Philadelphia,
Pa., Page Schaschwary of Chicago, Ill., and Drew Fletcher of Seattle, Wash.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, in the Adzima Funeral Home,
50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, with the Reverend Howard McMullen
officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm.

Ruth Pistey
Ruth Louise Autrey Pistey, 71, formerly of Newtown, died August 29, in the
Gulf Coast Community Hospital in Panama City, Florida. She was the wife of
Stephen Joseph Pistey.
She had been a Newtown resident for more than 20 years before moving to Panama
City, Fla. She had worked in the Newtown High School Cafeteria for 5 years.
She is survived by two daughter, Kim Pistey of Guerneville, Calif., and Kathy
Pistey of New Bern, N.C.; and two sons, Kevin Pistey of Forestville, Calif.,
and Kip Pistey of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Vernon Autrey of Melbourne,
Fla.
Flowers or cards may be sent to the family at 6503 Oak Shore Drive, Panama
City, FL 32404.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at the home on September
4. Smith Sutherland Funeral Home, Panama City, is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Northrup
Dorothy I. Northrup, 78, a longtime resident of Newtown, died August 30, at
Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edgar W. Northrup, and had
lived on Toddy Hill Road, Sandy Hook.
Mrs Northrup was born in Trumbull on January 29, 1917, a daughter of Charles
and Ruth Kellogg. She had lived in Newtown since 1950.
She was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are five sons, Edgar C. Northrup and John K. Northrup, Sr, both of
Sandy Hook, Gary K. Northrup of Danbury, Franklin B. Northrup of New
Fairfield, and Robert H. Northrup of Hawaii; a brother, Charles Kellogg of
Monroe; a sister, Ruth Hayes of Woodbury; 16 grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are Friday, September 1, from 7 to 9 pm at the Honan Funeral
Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
Services will be held Saturday, September 2, 11 am, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Bruno Don
Bruno Don, 72, formerly of Newtown, died August 29, in Brandon, Fla. He had
been married to Lois Don of Newtown, then Jeanne Don of Plant City, Fla.
He was born on February 6, 1923, in Udine, Italy, a son of Luigi and Gilde
Don. He emigrated to this country as a child.
He was a veteran of WWII, and was the owner of the former Fairfield County
Tile Company in Newtown.
In the mid-1980s, Mr Don retired and moved to Florida, where he was a member
of the Sons of Italy and the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Gina Hicks of Naugatuck, and Lori Harris of
Newtown; a son, Tony Don of Newtown; a brother, Gino Don of Bridgeport; three
grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Contributions in memory of Mr Don may be made to the American Brain Tumor
Association, 37 N. Talman Avenue, Chicago, IL 60618; or to the Integrated
Health Service at Brandon, 702 South King Avenue, Brandon, FL 33511.
Cremation will take place in Florida; burial will be in Bridgeport.
