Town Meeting Approves HOM Expansion

Newtown voters got right down to business Wednesday night, July 7, taking only

20 minutes to unanimously approve the appropriation of $774,700 for an

addition to Head O'Meadow School.

The bulk of the renovation and addition to be performed on the elementary

school involves the addition of a new kindergarten classroom; currently, two

kindergarten classes share one room at the school.

H&Y Construction of Brookfield, a company that has done work in neighboring

towns, will build the addition to the school.

The contracts between the town and H&Y Construction were signed on Thursday

morning, according to the Newtown school system's Building Maintenance and

Grounds Supervisor Dominick Posca.

The project will get underway by August 1 at the latest, Mr Posca said.

It is uncertain if H&Y Construction will have the project completed by the

start of school in the fall.
