KIM WEBER

Occupation: I am the adult program coordinator at the C.H. Booth Library. I

have a degree in French literature from Bates College in Maine. I worked in

the insurance industry before my children were born.

How Long in Newtown: I moved here in 1990. I lived in California and Minnesota

prior to that. I grew up in New Canaan.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: Newtown has changed a lot in nine years. I am

concerned about the rate of development and that the services, especially the

schools, will have a problem keeping up with a growing population. The Space

Needs Committee did an excellent job, and I hope the town will follow its

recommendations in a plan of action.

Family: My husband Jack and I have been married for 14 years. We have three

daughters, Caitlyn, 12, Lindsay, 10, and Emily, 7. I met my husband in

California. After college, in June of 1981, I rode my bike cross country. It

took 44 days. Anybody can do it. It was wonderful. Now my girls want to do it

so I may go again. I recommend going with someone. We camped out. It was

great.

Pets: We have a cat, Tinker, and a pound dog, Taffy.

Hobbies: I like to read, play tennis and garden. The thing I do most is watch

my kids playing sports. Our weekends are full of that, and I love it. We take

day trips together to New York City, Kent Falls, and hiking.

Favorite books and authors: I have just finished reading The Poisonwood Bible

about the Belgium Congo by Barbara Kingslover. I also like books by Wallace

Stegner, Jane Smiley and Ursula Hegi.

Favorite TV program: Frasier .

Organizations: I am a member of the United Methodist Church. I am very

involved in the PTA. I am working on a great program, Connecticut Audubon

Nature Explorers, a pilot program for kindergarten to grade 2, which teaches

parent volunteers to make presentations in the schools. The parents'

involvement is phenomenal. I'm helping with the soccer tournament that is

coming up in May, and I have been involved in the Literacy Volunteers in

Danbury, teaching English.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. We just discovered it.

Philosophy: You should take all your endeavors seriously but not take yourself

seriously.
