Joseph Mills

Joseph A. Mills, 85, of Newtown, a well-known Irish musician and a founder of

the Aughrim, Slopes, Ceilidhe Band, died July 6 at Ashlar of Newtown. He was

the husband of Kathleen Farrell Mills of Nunnawauk Meadows.

Born October 28, 1909, in County Galway, Ireland, he was the youngest of 15

children of James and Mary Fearon Mills.

Mr Mills moved to the United States in 1958, settling in Pelham, N.Y. Before

retiring, he worked for the Canada Dry Bottling Company in Pelham.

He was well known as a musician in Ireland, and played the accordion.

Mr Mills also frequently participated in sports including football and table

tennis.

He was a member of the Irish-American Club in Pelham, N.Y.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jack Mills of Yorktown Heights,

N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Synnott of California and Ann Uhrlass of Newtown; 11

grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held July 8 from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street,

Newtown, to a Mass of Christian Burial at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown.

Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mt Pleasant, N.Y.
