THE NEWTOWN POLITICAL PICTURE BECOMES SOMEWHAT CLEARER
B Y K AAREN V ALENTA
First Selectman Bob Cascella's choice this week of James M. Mooney to be his
running mate answers at least one question about who will be on the ballot in
the November election.
But mum's been the word on who - other than Selectman Gary Fetzer - might be
the Democrats' choice to run against Mr Cascella for the top spot. And Mr
Fetzer says he still hasn't made up his mind.
All three spots on the Board of Selectman are up for grabs. In addition, all
12 seats on the Legislative Council will be decided in this year's election.
The Republicans currently hold a 9-3 edge on the board.
Seats also will be filled on the Board of Education, the Edmond Town Hall
Board of Managers, the Board of Tax Review, the Planning and Zoning
Commission, the Police Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Town Clerk Cindy Curtis, a Republican, will be up for reelection. She was
unopposed in the last election.
The Democratic Town Committee was scheduled to hold its monthly meeting on
Thursday evening, July 13, at Edmond Town Hall. State Atty Gen Richard
Blumenthal was to be the guest speaker. The Democrats plan to hold their party
caucus at 8 pm on Tuesday, July 25, in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town
Hall. All registered Democrats are invited to attend and vote on the party's
choice of candidates.
The Republican Town Committee meeting will be Tuesday, July 18, in the
Alexandria Room at 7:30 pm. The Republican caucus will be held immediately
after the RTC meeting.
