Occupation: I am a philosophy student in Danbury in preparation for university

study. I also work at the Hawley Lounge with my brother. This is one of the

loveliest places I have seen since I have been in America.

Family: I have family both in America and Brazil. My brother, Harold, also

lives here, but my parents, Silvano and Therelinha Basilio live in San Paolo

with my older brother, Silvano. When I lived in San Paolo, I helped my father

with his storage business.

Pets: My father has more than 20 birds flying throughout our house. The birds

are multi-colored and of different species. We also have a dog, Bobby, a four

year-old, black cocker-spaniel.

Hobbies: This isn't quite a hobby, but I am a big fan of Carnival, the

two-week festival in February in Brazil. This is a cultural event in the best

Brazilian tradition: dance, music, beer, happy people, and girls minimally

clad.

Movies: I enjoy Gone With The Wind immensely, having seen it four times in

Brazil, but never in the States. Although the ending was sad because there was

no happiness, the cinematography was beautiful, and I like epic pictures. The

separation of the races disturbed me because we don't have that kind of

segregation in Brazil, although we do have well-defined social classes.

Books: I have read most of Jorge Amado's novels, including Tocaia Grande and

Manunaima. Americans are probably most familiar with Dona Flor because it was

made into a movie. Dona Flor had two husbands, one dead, with whom she had a

spiritual relationship, and one alive, with whom her relation was a bit more

down to earth.

Organizations: I don't belong to any organizations right now, but one day I

will join Greenpeace. I am in great sympathy with the defense of nature and

admire the activists' courage in confronting those with nuclear bombs.

Philosophy: No violence; love the family.
