OBITS: Robert Roles
Robert Gordon Roles, 87, a retired builder and the father of Robert Roles Jr,
of Newtown, died Wednesday in Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of the late
Mary Kelley Roles, and had lived in New Canaan for most of his life.
Mr Roles was born in Rowayton, February 11, 1908, a son of Gordon and Rose
Pickle Roles.
He was a member of the New Canaan Fire Company for more than 50 years and was
a former chief. He also served for years in the New Canaan Auxiliary Police.
Mr Roles had developed several New Canaan neighborhoods and ran a building and
a real estate business, Robert G. Roles and Son Company. He was a former
president of the Fairfield County Home Builders and a former member of the
board of directors of the national Association of Home Builders.
Mr Roles was a sports enthusiast and belonged to several local sports
associations. He was also a former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Norwalk
and a parishioner of St Aloysius R.C. Church, New Canaan.
Besides his son, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Taddei of Rhode
Island; a sister in Florida; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 16, at St Thomas More R.C. Church,
Middlesex Road, Darien. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
