SNAPSHOT: STEPHEN BELAIR

Occupation: I'm the group leader of rotar assembly at Sorvall L.P. Our group

makes the rotars that go into the centrifuges for the firm's biomedical

machines.

Family: My wife, Stacey, and I have two children, Christopher, 17, a

graduating high school senior, and Stephen, 25, a medic in the US Army in Fort

Hood, Texas. Stephen just came back from Bosnia where he treated injured

personnel. He wants to return.

Pets: Our cat, Smokey, has gray and white spots.

Biggest Change in Town: The biggest change has been the growth and

development. I would like to see Newtown retain its rural feeling. I have

found the more developed a town is, the less friendly it becomes.

Organizations: I have been a member of the United Fire Company of Botsford for

28 years, the last 18 years serving as chief. It is a great deal of work and

responsibility, but eminently enjoyable or I would not do it. I am also a

charter member of Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue. We investigate diving

related accidents, recover victims, and pull the deceased from the water.

Movies: I watch World War II movies. Audie Murphy's true life To Hell and Back

is a particular favorite.

Philosophy: Help others, try to be pleasant, and look on the bright side.
