Joanne C. Walker
Joanne C. Walker, 65, a retired Licensed Practical Nurse, of Hanover Road,
Newtown, died August 15 in Ashlar of Newtown.
She was born in Philadelphia, Penn., April 29, 1933, daughter of the late
Joseph and Mary (Campbell) Murphy.
A part-time resident of Newtown since 1983, she formerly resided in
Westchester County. Her last place of employment was in Phelps Memorial
Hospital in North Tarrytown, N.Y.
During the Korean War, she served in the US Navy Waves.
She is survived by one son, Gregory Walker of Brookfield; four daughters,
Suzanne Cinicola of Newtown, Kathleen Wolfgang of Hatfield, Penn., Patricia
Walker of South Salem, N.Y. and Mary Ellen Sideleau of Sandy Hook; one
brother, Joseph Murphy of Wayne, Penn.; two sisters, Kathleen Fencel of Camp
Hill, Penn. and Mary Phyllis Williams of Pasadena, Calif., and nine
grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at St
Rose Church, Newtown.

Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is in charge of arrangements.

Louis W. Davis
Louis W. Davis, 72, father of Jeffrey Davis of Newtown, died August 12, in
Bridgeport Hospital.
He was the husband of Grace Montague Davis of Fairfield. Mr Davis was born in
Bridgeport where he had been a lifelong area resident, living in Fairfield for
the past 46 years.
Mr Davis was a Naval veteran, serving in the Pacific aboard the destroyer, USS
Hugh Purvis during World War II. He was a retired engineer after having worked
at SNET for 43 years. He was a member of the SNET Telephone Pioneer Club, as
well as the USS Hugh Purvis Reunion Committee.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Biron of
Fairfield and Margaret Davis of Middletown; another son, Christopher Davis of
Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Davis of
Fairfield and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday in St Emery's Church with interment
following at Mt Grove Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St Emery's Sanctuary Restoration Fund, 838
King's Highway East, Fairfield, Conn. 06430.
The Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center, was in charge of
arrangements.

Lysbeth Platt
Lysbeth Walker Platt, former Newtown resident, died August 15.
She was the wife of Edmund C. Platt II of Walpole, N.H. Mrs Platt was born in
New Britain, Conn. She graduated from The Laurel School in Cleveland, Ohio,
and attended Connecticut College in New London.
Mrs Platt was a founding member of The League of Women Voters as well as
serving on the Boards of the Garden Club of Newtown and The Newtown Savings
Bank.
Her major civic interest was The Newtown Scholarship Assn where she served on
the board and was a former president. Active in her husband's business
affairs, she was a participating partner in The Platt Lumber Company and
Component Systems Corp.
A resident of Newtown for 37 years, Mr and Mrs Platt moved to Walpole, N.H.
where Mrs Platt was a member of St John's Church.
Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Deborah Platt Rucci of
Bethesda, Md. and Helen Platt Booty of Andover, Mass.; a brother, John E.
Walker of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Carolyn and Edmund
Rucci and Jillian and Christopher Booty, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial
gifts may be made to The Newtown Scholarship Fund or to Hospice, PO Box 564,
Keene, N.H. 03431.

Donald G. Luf Sr
Donald Guthrie Luf, Sr, 66, father of Donald G. Luf, Jr, of Newtown, died
August 15 at St Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.
Mr Luf was the husband of Shirley (Ingram) Luf. He was born on May 27, 1932 in
Waterbury, a son of the late Charles Guthrie and Phyllis (Bailey) Luf.
Mr Luf was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a lifelong
resident of Southbury and also retired from Curtis Packaging Corporation in
Sandy Hook where he worked for many years.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Luf of South
Britain.
Services were private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American
Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, Conn. 06492.
The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetree, 235 Main Street North, Route 6
and 67, was in charge of arrangements.

Denise Dunlop Carlson
Denise Dunlop Carlson, 52, of Newtown, died August 17, at Norwalk Hospital.
She was the wife of Richard V. Carlson. She was born in Norwalk on June 1,
1946, the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Ramsperger) Dunlop. She had
been a resident of Newtown for the past 26 years.
Mrs Carlson attended Norwalk and Westport Schools. She received a bachelor of
arts from Western Connecticut and a master's degree from the University of
Bridgeport.
A teacher, she taught for 30 years at Darien Elementary School in Darien.
She was a member of the Board of Trustees and past superintendent of Sunday
School of the United Methodist Church of Newtown, a member of the Rainbow
girls of the Masons, and active in the State Teachers Association and Boy
Scouts of America.
Mrs. Carlson was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, Boy Scouts of
America (BSA), and served as assistant council commissioner, BSA, Fairfield
County.
In addition to her husband, Mrs Carlson is survived by a son, Richard J.
Carlson of Newtown, and a brother, John Dunlop of Norwalk.
Funeral services were held August 19 in the East Avenue Methodist Church, East
Norwalk, with Rev Terry Pfeiffer, pastor of the United Methodist Church of
Newtown, officiating.
Burial was in St John's Cemetery in Norwalk.
Donations in memory of Mrs Carlson may be made to the Oncology Department of
Norwalk Hospital.
