New Lyme Test
A new kind of Lyme disease test is being developed at the University of
Connecticut that could revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of the
illness. Current Lyme tests detect antibodies and only become effective three
to six weeks after the body has started to produce defensive proteins.
The goal of the UConn study is a quick, effective test that can be done in a
doctor's office, according to Dr Hallie M Krider, professor of molecular and
cell biology at UConn.
The project has attracted the backing of the French-owned pharmaceutical
company Connaught Laboratories, which has committed at least $100,000 for
development of the test. (CASE Reports).
