New High School Asst. Principal
(with cut)
Susan Battersby will be joining Jules Triber as one of the two assistant
principals of Newtown High School.
Mrs Battersby brings a strong background in science curriculum development,
high school teaching, and administration to the position.
For the past ten years, she has worked for the Darien Public School system as
a high school science teacher, a K-12 science specialist, and most recently,
science department chairperson.
She holds a sixth year diploma in Educational Administration, a masters degree
in secondary education, and a bachelor of science in biology.
While in Darien, she was active in curriculum assessment, and took a strong
role in integrating technology into the curriculum.
She has also been involved in developing standardized tests at the state
level, as a New Test Co-ordinator for the Connecticut Academic Performance
Test (CAPT).
Also at the state level, she has helped set standards for new subject area
examinations required for teacher certification in biology.
Mrs Battersby, who will be commuting from Westport, said that she is very
impressed with the facilities at the Newtown High School.
She is getting to know staff and students and looking forward to feeling a
part of the community.
Mrs Battersby is replacing Marilyn Capizzano, who left Newtown High School to
accept the principalship of Yorktown High School in New York State in June.
