Robert J. Lockwood

Robert J. Lockwood, 80, died May 25 at his home in Grace Meadows, Southbury.

Mr Lockwood was born in Sandy Hook on August 10, 1918, son of the late

Fredrick and Isabelle (Conger) Lockwood. He was an Army veteran of World War

II, serving in Europe and awarded many commendations, including the Purple

Heart, a Bronze Ribbon with a Star, an Infantry Rifle Badge, the Germany

Victory Ribbon and the Normandy Invasion Ribbon. A longtime Sandy Hook

resident, he moved to Southbury 15 years ago.

Mr Lockwood was a machine operator for the Watkins Company in Sandy Hook for

many years before his retirement. He was a member of VFW Post 1607 and

American Legion Post 147, both in Southbury, and a communicant of Sacred Heart

Church. He was the first president of the Meadow Larks, a social group in

Grace Meadows.

Mr Lockwood leaves several nieces and nephews, and is predeceased by four

brothers and five sisters.

Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home,

750 Main Street South, Southbury.

Alfonso U. Vazquez

Alfonso U. Vazquez, 72, of 84 Tepi Drive, Southbury, husband of Maimo Angela

Vazquez, died May 25 at Ashlar of Newtown. He moved to Southbury from Newtown

in 1986.

He was the father of Kim Connolly of Newtown.

Mr Vazquez was born in New York City on January 28, 1927, son of John and

Manuela Vazquez, who taught him the importance of family. He continued their

tradition of helping family members and friends by opening up his home many

times for those in time of transition.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he leaves behind another daughter, Lee

Fussell of Brookfield; three grandsons, Matthew Fussell, Sean Connolly, and

Trevor Connolly; and a brother, Paul Vazquez, of New York City and

Pennsylvania.

Mr Vazquez was a kind and gentle man who loved sailing his boat on Long Island

Sound and lively discussions with friends at cocktail hour. He was a voracious

reader with a lifelong love of learning. He will always be remembered as an

excellent dancer who loved old musicals and knew all the Broadway tunes.

His friends and family treasure the memory of the man with the big heart, the

quick mind and the dancing feet.

A celebration of his life will be held in June. Contributions may be made to

the Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518.

Arrangements were by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown.

Bridget D. Fitzgerald

Bridget D. (Queally) Fitzgerald, 89, of Glen Hill Road in Danbury, wife of the

late John P. Fitzgerald, died May 20 at Glen Hill Health Care Center.

She was born in County Claire, Ireland on November 4, 1909, daughter of the

late Thomas and Ann (Lydon) Queally.

She was the mother of Patricia Usaty of Newtown.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by another daughter, Marion

Hegarty of Brewster, N.Y.; a sister, Ann DeAngelis of Hampton Bay, Long

Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Robert Usaty, George Usaty, Jr, Karen Usaty

and William Hegarty; two great-children, Joseph and Christopher Usaty; and

several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 22 at St Joseph Church in

Brookfield. Burial followed in St Mary Cemetery in Bethel.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, was in charge of

arrangements.

Mildred A. Lindgren

Mildred A. (Johnson) Hansen Lindgren, 83, of Quaker Street, Weare, N.H., died

May 23 at the Concord Hospital. She was the sister of Betsy Anderson of

Newtown.

She was born in Bridgeport, September 24, 1915, the daughter of Oscar Victor

and Amelia Lydia (Soderberg) Johnson. She graduated in 1933 from Roger Ludlow

High School in Fairfield and married Harry E. Hansen, Jr, who predeceased her

in 1965. She was remarried to Norman B. Lindgren in 1970 and they celebrated

their 29th wedding anniversary May 22, the day before she died. She was a

member of the Henniker Congregational Church, the Weare Historical Society and

formerly a member of the Stepney Baptist Church of Stepney.

Mrs Lindgren is survived by her husband, Norman B. of Weare, and his son, Carl

Lindgren of Vista, Calif. In addition to her husband and sister, she is

survived by her daughter, Laurel (Hansen) Chapman, and her only granddaughter,

Heather Hansen Chapman of Weare; a brother, Gordon Johnson of Trumbull; and

many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 29 at 8 am at the Henniker

Congregational Church, Maple Avenue, Henniker, N.H. with burial to follow at

the Mountain Grove Cemetery of Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to The Hymnal Fund,

Henniker Congregational Church, Maple Avenue, Henniker, NH 03242.

Arrangements are being handled by the French & Rising Funeral Home, 17 South

Mast Street, Goffstown, N.H.

Virginia Pixley

Virginia (Kempka) Pixley, 79, of Shelton, died May 22 in the Mariner Health

Care Center, Ansonia. She was the mother of Robert C. Pixley, Jr, of Newtown.

She was born in St Joseph, Mo., and was an area resident most of her life.

She was the widow of Robert C. Pixley. In addition to her son, she is survived

by two daughters, Dianne Rogers and Marge Mather of Shelton; one brother,

Hubert Kempka of Webster Groves, Mo.; six grandchildren, Shannon, Bobby,

Marlene, Janine, and James Pixley, and Joshua Rogers; and several nieces and

nephews.

The funeral was held on May 26 in the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home,

399 White Plains Road, and in St Lawrence Church, Huntington. Interment was in

St Michael's Cemetery.

Gary N. Paddock

Gary N. Paddock, 44, of Monmouth, Me., formerly of Newtown and Roxbury, died

May 13 at his home, following a three-year battle with colon cancer. His wife

of 10 years, Cheryl Paddock, was at his bedside when he died.

Mr Paddock was born in Rochester, N.Y. in 1954 and moved with his parents and

siblings to Newtown in 1970. He graduated from Newtown High School and went on

to study music at Berkley School of Music in Boston, where he first took up

cello, later double and electric bass. At the time of his death, he was a

professional bassist with the band "Chameleon" out of the greater

Portland-Lewiston area of Maine. Although a professional musician, Mr Paddock

was self-employed during the day, establishing and running a successful

cleaning business. Prior to his relocation to Maine in 1982, he was the

bassist for many bands local to the greater Danbury and Waterbury areas, most

notable the "Frankie Michaels and Company" band. When he moved to Maine, his

"Good and Plenty" band became and remained the house band at the Ramada Inn in

Lewiston, Me. for a number of years.

Mr Paddock was a member of the West Bowdoin Baptist Church where he and his

wife enjoyed participating in the choir. He was also instrumental in forming

the church's all-men choir.

Mr Paddock is survived also by a son, 16-year-old Benjamin of Auburn, Me.; his

mother, Anna Louise (Blechinger) Paddock of Waterbury; his father and

step-mother, Gaylord and Andrea Paddock of Monroe; his five brothers, Daryl of

Spencerport, N.Y., Bryan of Cornwall, Todd of Cumberland, Me., Glenn of

Cheshire, and 13-year-old Guy, all of Monroe; and a niece, Alexandra Paddock.

Memorial services were held on May 16 in the West Bowdoin Baptist Church,

Bowdoin, Me. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Bowdoin Baptist

Church, West Road, Bowdoin, ME, in care of the Reverend Greg Thomas.

Rose M. Hurley

Rose M. (Duffy) Hurley of Cranford, N.J., formerly of Jersey City, N.J., died

at Rahway Hospital on May 19. She was the wife of the late attorney Thomas M.

Hurley.

She is survived by her son, Michael Hurley, and daughter-in-law, Lorraine

Hurley of Newtown; granddaughters, Maura (Hurley) Kuehling of Germantown, Md.;

Cara Hurley of Fort Hood, Tex., and Micaela Hurley of Darmstadt, Germany;

daughters, Mary Hull of Cranford, N.J. and Anne Trock of West Orange, N.J.;

six other grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased

by a daughter, Helen Granger of New York City.

Interment was in the Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, N.J.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Russell W. Egan, Sr

Russell W. Egan, Sr, of 8 Olive Street in Danbury, husband of Elizabeth

(Tappan) Egan, died May 20 at Danbury Hospital. He was the step-father of

Susan E. Fairchild of Sandy Hook.

He was born on September 30, 1923, in Woodbridge, a son of the late William

Henry and Henrietta Frances (Groomes) Egan. He graduated from Hillhouse High

School in New Haven in 1942. Mr Egan served in the Medical Corps of the US

Army in England and Germany during World War II. He worked as a landscape

gardener in the family business Hillcrest Gardens Nursery Inc, established in

1930. Besides being an avid gardener, Mr Egan was also a golf and old car

enthusiast.

Besides his wife and step-daughter, he is survived by his son, Russell Egan,

Jr, of Clinton; a daughter, Kathleen A. Egan of Woodbridge; a stepson, William

G. Conley of Danbury; another step-daughter, Laura J. Clarke of Sherman; a

brother, Ernest Egan of Booth Bay, Maine; and four grandchildren, Colleen

Comeau, Richard Dass, Sarah E. Fairchild, and Sean P. Clarke.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Respiratory Therapy Department

of Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810, c/o Arthur Kotch,

MD.

Services were held Thursday at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street,

Danbury. Burial followed at Wooster Cemetery in Danbury.

Silvino C. Lima

Silvino C. Lima, 61, husband of Maria Lourdes (Moniz) Lima, of 2 Bergh Street

in Danbury, died at his residence on May 23. He was the father of Diana

Fernandes of Newtown.

He was born in the Azores, Portugal, on May 12, 1938, son of the late

Francisco and Maria Conceicau (Couto Martins) Lima. He came to Danbury from

Vila Franco, Azores 45 years ago and had been a Danbury resident since.

Mr Lima was a retired employee of the Public Works Department of the City of

Danbury. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club and Catholic War

Veterans.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by a son, Silvino C.

Lima, Jr, of Danbury; two brothers, Daniel Lima and Luis Lima, both of

Danbury; five sisters, Natalie Araujo of Danbury, Maria Weltz of Richmond,

Va., Irene Henriques of New Fairfield, Edna Sengupta of Marlborough, Mass. and

Margaret Costa of Chicopee, Mass.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and

nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 26 at Sacred Heart of Jesus

Church in Danbury. Burial took place in St Peter Cemetery.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, was in charge of

arrangements.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
