Town Grants Easement Associated With Planned Bypass Road
The three selectmen attending a special town meeting Thursday morning approved
a slope easement to the state to improve sight lines in connection with the
state's planned construction of the Fairfield Hills bypass road.
First Selectman Robert Cascella said the easement will allow the state to
reduce the size of a slope and improve sight lines for motorists making a left
turn from Oakview Road onto Mile Hill Road. Altering the slope will make
driving in that area safer, Mr Cascella said.
"It's a good thing [at] no cost to the town," he said.
The easement gives the state the right to reduce the slope on a
10,000-square-foot piece of town-owned property.
The state Department of Transportation is expected to soon start construction
on the long-awaited bypass road intended to provide an east-west link between
Route 34, Interstate-84, and Route 25. The bypass road is intended to
alleviate traffic congestion in the town center by providing an alternate
east-west route for tractor-trailer truck traffic.
