Newtown Gets Thanks

From Oklahoma City

The town of Newtown has received a thank you letter from the state of

Oklahoma's District Attorney's Council for the money donated by residents to

aid the victims of the April 19 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma

City.

First Selectman Bob Cascella's office received the letter which was sent to

the Town of Newtown by Suzanne Breedlove, administrator of the Murrah Crime

Victims Compensation Fund, in response to $160 collected in a special fund by

the Newtown Savings Bank.

The Murrah Crime Victims Compensation Act was signed into law by Oklahoma Gov

Frank Keating on May 2. The act ensures that every dollar contributed to the

Murrah Fund will be used to assist those who were injured and the families of

those killed in the bombing. This assistance includes medical costs, funerals,

loss of support for families of deceased victims, loss of wages for those

injured and counseling for victims and family members.

The costs associated with administering the Murrah Fund are being absorbed by

the Oklahoma District Attorney's Council and District Attorney Robert H.

Macy's office in Oklahoma City.

"In the midst of all the devastation and human suffering, the gifts of love

and words of comfort shared by wonderful people like you remain a constant

source of inspiration for all of the people in the country whose lives have

been forever changed as a result of this horrendous crime," Ms Breedlove said

in the letter.

A tree donated by Planters' Choice Nursery also was planted in front of Edmond

Town Hall recently in memory of the bombing victims.

Mr Cascella expressed his appreciation for the donations made by residents to

the fund.
