OBITS (O'Neil; Cook; Vozzo; Laughner; Budnar; Dwyer; Lukeris)

Hugh O'Neil

Hugh O'Neil, 82, brother-in-law of Shirley O'Neil of Newtown, died April 9 at

the US Veterans Administration Hospital, West Haven, Conn.

Mr O'Neil was born in Bridgeport, August 25, 1915, the son of Hugh and Helen

(McCue) O'Neil. He graduated from Central High School, Bridgeport.

He was a resident of Franklin Street Extension, Danbury.

A World War II Army veteran, Mr O'Neil was a retired letter carrier of the US

Postal Service based in Bridgeport.

Besides his sister-in-law, Shirley, he is survived by another sister-in law,

Jean O'Neil of Southport; and five nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be Friday, April 17, at 1 pm at St Peter

Cemetery, Danbury, with the Rev Michael Madden, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, is in charge of

arrangements.

William Cook

William Cook, 78, father of Marguerite Santo of Newtown, died April 7 in 3030

Park, Fairfield.

He was the husband of Beverlee Smith Cook of Bridgeport.

Born in Bridgeport, Mr Cook graduated from Bassick High School and the Butler

Business School. He was a banking officer at City Trust Bank for more than 40

years. A Marine Air Corps veteran, he served in World War II.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by two sons, William Cook of

Indiana and Wayne Cook of Stratford; two stepchildren, Jill Steiner of New

Hampshire and John M. Steiner of Milford; four grandchildren; a great-grandson

and a niece.

Mr Cook was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Cook Rauscher.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on April 13 in St Andrews Church.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the American Cancer Society or

the Heart Association.

The Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport, was in charge of

arrangements.

Vincent J. Vozzo

Vincent J. Vozzo, 87, brother of Mary Edwards of Newtown, died April 11 at

Danbury Hospital.

He was the husband of Amanda Polverari Vozzo of Ridgefield.

He was born in South Norwalk, September 16, 1910, a son of Pasquale and

Florence Forcellina Vozzo. Educated in Norwalk schools, he was a retired

mason.

Before his retirement, Mr Vozzo had worked for the former Polverari

Construction Company of Ridgefield. He was a member of the International

Laborers Union of North American Local 675.

A resident of Ridgefield for the past 65 years, he was a member of the Italian

American Mutual Aid Society and a life member of the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire

Department. He was also a member of St Mary's Church.

Besides his wife and sister, he is survived by a son, James P. Vozzo of

Ridgefield; two brothers, Peter Vozzo of Ft Lauderdale, Fla., and Edward Vozzo

of South Norwalk; another sister, Louise Soltis of Huntington; two

grandchildren, Michael Vozzo and Maria Lucas; and five great-grandchildren.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Ridgefield Fire Department

Ambulance Fund, 6 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield 06877.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday morning at St Mary's Church,

Ridgefield. Burial followed in St Mary's Cemetery.

Deborah Laughner

Deborah A. Hazelwood Laughner, 39, of Stratford, died April 9 in Bridgeport

Hospital.

She was the wife of Warren Laughner, Sr, of Stratford.

Born in Peterstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of Mary Faroni of St

Petersburg, Fla.

She was a resident of Stratford and was the business manager of Pony Express

Screen Printing Company on Botsford Hill Road in Newtown.

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Katelyn Diana

Laughner of Stratford; two sisters, Angela Lahr of Stratford and Beverly

Kirshbaum of St Petersburg, Fla.; cousins Laura Bowles, Beth, Tommy, and

Steven Blankenship of W.Va., and Sandy and Brandon Thompson of Newtown.

Burial was April 14 at Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown.

Jean Bodnar

Jean Pisaretz Bodnar, 78, mother of Leslie J. Bodnar III of Newtown, died

April 12 in Newtown.

Mrs Bodnar was born in Bridgeport and was a life-long area resident. She was

the widow of Leslie J. Bodnar, Jr.

Besides her son Leslie, she is survived by another son, Glenn Alan Bodnar of

Southbury; a brother, Peter Pisaretz of Easton; a sister, Vera Debunetsky of

Norwich; a grandson, Andrew John Bodnar; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services were held April 15 in the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral

Home, 399 White Plains Road, with the Rev Michael Kolbosh, pastor of the Holy

Ghost Russian Orthodox Church, officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove

Cemetery.

J. Douglas Dwyer

J. Douglas "Doug" Dwyer, 83, father of Frederick D. Dwyer of Sandy Hook, died

April 12.

Mr Dwyer, of Worcester, Mass., was the husband of Lillian D. Allaire

Dombrowski Dwyer. He was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia E. Flad

Dwyer, in 1980.

He was born in Sutton, Mass., the son of John L. and Edith Johnston Dwyer. He

lived in Worcester for many years.

A US Navy veteran, he served with the Atlantic Fleet during World War II.

Before his retirement in 1976, Mr Dwyer had been a truck driver for 25 years.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 170.

He was a member of Christ the King Church. He was also a member and past

president of the Senior Bowling League at Town and Country Lanes in

Shrewsbury, Mass.

Besides his wife and son, Mr Dwyer is survived by another son; four brothers;

two sisters; five stepsons; four stepdaughters; four grandchildren; 19

step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four

step-great-grandchildren.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20

Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

A Mass at Christ the King Church, Worcester, was held April 15. Burial was in

Hillside Cemetery, Auburn, Mass.

Spiro Lukeris

Spiro Lukeris, 50, of Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook, died April 13 at Danbury

Hospital.

Mr Lukeris was the husband of Sally Campbell Lukeris.

He was born in Bridgeport, January 23, 1948, the son of the late Gabriel and

Katherine Contarini Lukeris. He graduated from Bassick High School in

Bridgeport in 1965; he received his bachelor's degree from McGill University

in Montreal and a master's in biochemistry from the University of Connecticut.

He had accumulated credits toward a computer electronics degree from

Bridgeport Engineering Institute and the University of Bridgeport. He

contracted multiple positions with companies such as IBM, Perkin-Elmer and

Visionetis.

He had been a resident of the Sandy Hook area of Newtown since 1975.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Katherine Lukeris of New

York City and Cassandra and Rebecca Lukeris of Sandy Hook; a brother, Peter

Lukeris of Sandy Hook; and a nephew.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Lukeris Children's Educational

Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 151 New Park Ave, Hartford 06106.

Calling hours will be Thursday, April 16, 5 to 8 pm, at the Honan Funeral

Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Graveside services will take place at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, E.

Bridgewater, Mass.
