OBITS (Camp; Holinko; Deming; Berger; Hogenauer)
Lawrence C. Camp
Lawrence C. Camp, 76, father of Gail Brown of Newtown, died July 20 in
Stamford Hospital.
He was the husband of Elizabeth F. Camp of Fairfield. Born in Bridgeport, Mr
Camp was an area resident since 1945.
He was a retired engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft and a World War II US Army
veteran serving in the European Theater. Mr Camp was an active member of the
Black Rock Congregational Church, where he was a member of the Young at Heart
Group, served on both the board of trustees and the board of missions, and was
a leader of the Christian Service Brigade. Very active in mission work, Mr
Camp participated in 14 mission trips, serving as a leader on four. He was a
board member of Pivot Ministries and was a Gideon for many years.
Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by two sons, Peter Lawrence Camp
of Raeford, N.C., and Douglas B. Camp of Fairfield; two other daughters, Betsy
Skirzynski of Trenton N.J., and Judy Tyner of Lawndale, Calif.; eleven
grandchildren; a niece and a grand-niece. He was predeceased by his son,
William C. Camp.
A memorial service will be Friday, July 24, at 6:30 pm in the Black Rock
Congregational Church, Fairfield. Interment will be private in Maple Grove
Cemetery, Easton.
The family requests that there be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to either the Gideons International, PO Box
6413, Bridgeport, Conn. 06606 or to the Black Rock Congregational Church

Angela Holinko
Angela Holinko, 34, sister of Lisa Wark of Newtown, died July 19 at her home
in Norwalk.
She was the daughter of Angela Niglio Holinko of Naples, Fla., and the late
Henry Holinko.
Angela was born in Bridgeport and was a Trumbull resident most of her life,
before moving to Norwalk two years ago.
She was a graduate of Trumbull High School and was an administrative assistant
for the R.W. Greeff & Co. She volunteered her time with several community
service organizations.
Besides her mother and sister, she is survived by two other sisters, Lorna
Fabrizi of Monroe and Pamela Ferris of Sarasota, Fla; several aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and one great-nephew.
Funeral services are Friday, July 24, at 9:15 am from the Cyril F. Mullins
Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, and 10 am in St Theresa Church.
Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening, July
23, 5 to 9 pm.

Philip H. Deming
Philip Harvey Deming, of 5 Orchard Hill Road, Newtown, died July 19 at Danbury
Hospital.
He was the husband of Marion (Johnson) Deming. He was born in Champaign, Ill.,
August 4, 1917, the son of the late Horace & Elsie (Ball) Deming.
Dr Deming received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and chemistry from
the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and his doctorate degree in physical
chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma XI and a 50-plus year member of
the American Chemical Society.
He began his business career in 1943 with Shell Development Company in San
Francisco working on wartime rubber and chemical projects. In 1954 Shell
Development lent his services to the Pentagon in Washington, DC, for a year as
a "dollar-a-year" man. After becoming department head of the Central Chemistry
Department in 1968 he was transferred by Shell Oil Company to New York City,
and the family subsequently built a home in Wilton.
Upon his retirement from Shell Oil Company, he came to Newtown and greatly
enjoyed being an avid gardener and bird watcher. The family has lived in
Newtown for 26 years.
Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by two daughters, Karin Deming of
Wellesley, Mass. and Leslie Deming of Edmonds, Washington; a sister, Eleanor
Boerner of Bethesda, Md.; a brother, Frank Deming of Canton, Ohio; three
grandsons, Brett Shirley, Arthur Emery and Galen Emery; and several nieces and
nephews.
Services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Shirley Berger
Shirley Porter Berger, 73, mother of Paul Berger of Newtown, died July 16 in
Norwalk Hospital.
Mrs Berger, of Fairfield, wife of the late Joseph Berger, was born in
Bridgeport and was an area resident most of her life. She resided in
Louisville, Ky. for 20 years before returning to Connecticut.
A former medical technologist, Mrs Berger was a volunteer in the Emergency
Room at Bridgeport Hospital and a former committee member of the Four Seasons
Ball for the Kennedy Center.
Besides her son, Paul, she is survived by two other sons, Joseph Berger of
Southbury and James Berger of Houston, Tex.; one daughter, Diane Fox of North
Carolina; one brother, John Porter of Fairfield; two sisters, Nancy Maring of
Easton, and Bernadette Porter of Bridgeport; six grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 20 from the Larson Funeral Home, Bridgeport
followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Thomas Church, Fairfield.
Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.

John S. Hogenauer
John S. Hogenauer, 78, of 9 Quaker Lane in Newtown, died July 16 at Yale New
Haven Hospital.
He was the husband of Margaret (Scholan) Hogenauer. Mr Hogenauer was born in
Bridgeport, September 20, 1919, the son of the late Alfred and Helene
(Speckle) Hogenauer. He was a resident of Newtown for 39 years.
Mr Hogenauer was a retired machine operator at Bodine Corp of Bridgeport.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Edward Hogenauer of Newtown,
Alfred Hogenauer of Idaho, John Hogenauer of New Milford, and Robert Hogenauer
of California; one daughter, Margaret Velthizen of Newtown; one twin brother,
Robert Hogenauer, of Spring Hill, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson;
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 20 at the Honan Funeral Home on Main Street,
Newtown. Interment at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
