Mary Jane Leaden

Mary Jane Leaden, 69, a secretary in the Religious Education office at St Mary

Church in Bethel for many years, died Sunday, December 7, at her home. She was

the mother of Regina Lones of Newtown.

Mrs Leaden, of 2 Wine Sap Run, Bethel, was the wife of John V. Leaden.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on January 27, 1928, a daughter of John and

Genevieve Langstaff Lang. She was a graduate of Bishop McDonald High School in

Brooklyn.

A resident of Bethel for 20 years, Mrs Leaden previously lived in Rockville

Centre and Lynbrooke, N.Y.

She was a member of St Mary Church and also served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Besides her husband and her daughter, Mrs Leaden is survived by 12 children,

Christine O'Grady of Commack, N.Y., Eileen Luchsinger of Bethel, Stephen

Leaden of East Windsor, N.Y., Brian Lynch of Vernon, Philip Leaden of

Oceanside, N.Y., Kevin Lynch of East Meadow, N.Y., Christopher Leaden of

Aquaboque, N.Y., Patricia Lynch of Bethel, Janet Samuels of Oceanside, N.Y.,

James Leaden of New Milford, Richard Leaden of Danbury, and John F. Leaden of

Bethel; 24 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western

Connecticut, 30 West St, Danbury 06810.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 10 at St Mary Church, Bethel.

Burial will be in St Mary Cemetery.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Alphonse J. Sierocki

Alphonse J. Sierocki Sr, 85, of Fairfield, a retired foreman for the General

Electric Company, died on Thursday, December 4, in Bridgeport Hospital. He was

the father of Newtown resident Audrey Barnett.

Born in Nanticoke, Pa., he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 45

years.

He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at General Electric.

Besides his wife Alice Harrison Sierocki and daughter Audrey and her husband

Thomas, he is survived by his children Alphonse J. Sierocki Jr and his wife

Lauren, of Shelton; James M. Sierocki and his wife, Lisa, of Snellville, Ga.;

Jean Coppola of Ellijay, Ga.; and Jeannette Edwards and her husband, Rex, of

Gilbert, Ariz.

He is also survived be nine grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs John Sierocki

of Nanticoke, Pa.; and four nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held December 6 in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South

Benson Road, Fairfield, and in St Pius X Church with a Mass of Christian

Burial.

Interment followed in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.

Ann P. Peloquin

Ann Panchok Peloquin, 86, of Fairfield, died December 2, in St Vincent's

Medical Center. She was the sister of Newtown resident Nick Panchok.

Mrs Peloquin, wife of the late Leon Peloquin, was born in Poland and was a

Fairfield resident for 40 years.

Besides her brother Nick, she is survived by four sons, James Peloquin of

Trumbull, Nick Peloquin of Monroe, Joe Peloquin of Stratford and Philip

Peloquin of Fairfield; another brother, Andrew Panchok of Brooklyn; one

sister, Stella Murdzia of Trumbull; ten grandchildren, five

great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Marshall; two brothers, Peter and

Theodore Panchok, and a sister, Mary Auger.

Services were held December 6 in The Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue,

Bridgeport and in Holy Family Church, Fairfield.

Burial will be in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.

The family requests donations be made to Gambro Health Care, Dialysis Unit,

900 Madison Ave, Bridgeport.

James Ottoshavett

James A. Ottoshavett of Sumter, N.C., a retired carpenter formerly of Newtown,

died December 2 in Florence, S.C.

Mr Ottoshavett was born in Newtown November 12, 1916, a son of the late John

and Catherine Donovan Ottoshavett.

He was reared and educated in Newtown.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Ottoshavett of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; two

daughters, Carolyn Jones of Brownville, Me., and Elena Ottoshavett of

Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and a brother, William Ottoshavett of Newtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Jude Church, Sumter, N.C.

Services were held December 8 at St Rose Cemetery, Newtown.

The Honan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Riess

Harold E. Riess, 81, of Heritage Village, Southbury, father of Karen Romanelli

of Newtown, died December 3 at Waterbury Hospital.

A retired accountant, Mr Riess was the husband of Isabel (Creekbaum) Riess, to

whom he was married for 52 years.

He was born in New York October 3, 1916, a son of the late William H. and

Christina (Rees) Riess.

Formerly of Merrick, N.Y., Mr Riess moved to Heritage Village in 1993. He

worked for John Boyle & Co in New York City for the 47 years before his

retirement.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by another daughter, June Riess

Goldner of Katonah, N.Y., and three grandchildren.

Contributions in memory of Mr Riess may be made to the Heritage Village

Ambulance Association, PO Box 2045, Southbury 06488.

Services were held December 6 at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St, Southbury.

Burial was in New North Cemetery, Woodbury.

Dorothy Strasburger

Dorothy S. Strasburger, 82, of Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown, died December 8

at her home.

Mrs Strasburger was the wife of veterinarian Dr Russell F. Strasburger.

She was born in Bridgeport, July 2, 1915, a daughter of Walter and Bertha

Schneider. She graduated from Bridgeport Central High School in 1932 and from

Wellesley College in 1936.

She taught Latin and French in the school systems of Danbury and Newtown

before retiring 20 years ago. She was a member of the Connecticut Retired

Teachers Association.

After her retirement she was active with the Newtown Visiting Nurse

Association, Newtown Meals on Wheels and the Newtown Scholarship Association,

and she served on the board of directors of the Newtown Meeting House.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Russell F. Strasburger of

Newtown; a daughter, Dorothy Holmes of Orchard Park, N.Y.; a sister, Marion

Rich of Medford, N.J.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Contributions in memory of Mrs Strasburger may be made to the Newtown

Scholarship Association, PO Box 302, Newtown 06470.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at the

convenience of the family. Honan Funeral Home of Newtown is in charge of the

arrangements.

Joseph Hall

Joseph Hall, 94, formerly of 161 High Ridge Road, Ridgefield, died December 8

at Ashlar of Newtown.

Mr Hall was the husband of the late Duncena MacKenzie Hall.

He was born in Ireland, December 5, 1903. He was a nurseryman for Alpost and

Woodcock Landscaping and for the town of Ridgefield.

Mr Hall was a member of Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church and

Jerusalem Lodge No 49, AF & AM of Ridgefield.

At Ashlar, he was a member of the Bell Choir and past president of the

resident's council.

He is survived by a son, William Hall of Winter Park, Fla.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, December 12, at 3:30 pm, at

Fairlawn Cemetery, Ridgefield. The Rev R. Randy Day will officiate. A Masonic

service will follow.

Eva M. Lacey

Eva M. Lacey, 89, formerly of 240 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, died December 9 at

Ashlar of Newtown.

Mrs Lacey was the wife of the late Charles E. Lacey.

She was born in Pomquet, Nova Scotia, Canada, September 30, 1908, a daughter

of Edmund and Jane (DeCoste) Benoit. She moved to the United States as a young

woman, settling in Bethel in 1954.

She was a member of St Mary Church in Bethel, where she was active in the

Altar Society and was the rectory cook for five years.

She is survived by four sons, Edmund of Mashpee, Mass., Peter of New Milford,

George of Bethel, and Larry of Nantucket, Mass.; four daughters, Carol

Aniskovich of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jane Damici and Mary Kaempfer, both of Bethel,

and Elaine Lashgari of West Hartford; 30 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren

and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Maurice, and a daughter, Patricia Lacey.

Contributions in memory of Mrs Lacey may be made to the Bethel Senior Center

or the Bethel Visiting Nurse Association, both at 1 School St, Bethel 06801.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December 12, at 10 am,

at St Mary Church, Bethel. Burial will be in St Mary Cemetery.

Michael W. Pirhalla

Michael W. Pirhalla, 46, brother of Elaine Williams of Newtown, died December

8, in Bridgeport Hospital.

He was born in Bridgeport and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr Pirhalla was a plant foreman for the Harborview Terminal Inc. He is a

member of the Fairfield County Fish and Game Association and the NRA.

Besides his sister Elaine, he is survived by his wife, Karen Claudio Pirhalla;

a son, Michael J. Pirhalla of Stratford; a daughter, Holly Pirhalla of

Stratford; two sisters, Marilyn Pirhalla of Trumbull and Arlene Marshall of

Stratford; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 11, from 4 to 8 pm.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 12, at 11 am, in the

Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, with the Rev

John K. Russell, pastor of the Trumbull Congregational Church officiating.

Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
