OBITS (Bartek; Desmond; Moros; Lawrence; McIlrath)

Paul Bartek

Paul S. Bartek, 46, of Cherry Street, Sandy Hook, died April 3 at Robert Wood

Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton Township, N.J.

Mr Bartek was the husband of Carol A. McCarthy Bartek.

He was born in Bridgeport, July 2, 1952, the son of Edward and Rose Chulik

Bartek.

He was a plater at Allied Signal Company in Bridgeport and lived in Sandy Hook

for the past 15 years. He was also a member of the US Army Reserves.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul Bartek of Newtown; four

daughters, April Fulton of New Milford, Tracey Bartek of Waterbury and Joann

and Kathleen Bartek, both of Newtown; and a granddaughter.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the family, care of the Honan

Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Funeral services were held April 7 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of

Christian Burial at St Rose Church, Newtown. Burial is in St Rose Cemetery.

Miriam A. Desmond

Miriam A. Desmond, 88, a former longtime area resident, died April 4 at

Southminster Retirement Center in Charlotte, N.C., where she lived for the

past seven years.

Mrs Desmond was the wife of the late Dr Waldo Desmond. She had been a Newtown

resident for 40 years until moving to Heritage Village in Southbury; she lived

there until relocating to North Carolina.

She was born in Bridgeport on March 22, 1910, the daughter of Dr Frank and

Grace Griswold Wales. She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport and

Drew Junior College. Her survivors include a son, Daniel Desmond of

Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter, Susan Stover of Carbondale, Colo.; four

grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held April 8 in Newtown Village Cemetery with the Rev

Kathleen Adams-Shepherd officiating.

Michael Moros

Michael Moros, 73, father of Adrienne Sedor of Newtown, died April 5 at St

Vincent's Hospital, Bridgeport.

Mr Moros was the husband of Effie Henessey Moros. He was predeceased by his

first wife, Jean L. Ephrem Moros.

A lifelong Danbury resident, he was born in Danbury, October 8, 1924, the son

of Michael and Anna Kopoc Moros. He was a 1941 graduate of Danbury High

School. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he served four years and

participated in battles in the Pacific, including the invasion of Iwo Jima. He

was awarded an Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Two Stars and a Presidential Unit

Citation with One Star.

He retired in 1986 as foreman with Kimberly-Clark in New Milford, where he

worked for 28 years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury. He was also a

member of the Polish-American Club.

Besides his wife and daughter, Mr Moros is survived by a son, Rodney J.

Mailloux of Naugatuck; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and

several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Robert M. Moros

and Daniel J. Moros, and a granddaughter, Deborah Huse.

Due to the solemnity of Holy Week, funeral services were conducted at the

Cornell Memorial Home, Danbury, on April 9. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated

Friday, April 17, at 10 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will be in

St Peter Cemetery.

Edward M. Lawrence

Edward M. Lawrence, Lt USN Ret, 83, died April 5 at his home.

Mr Lawrence, of St George Place, Sandy Hook, was the husband of Jean Bryan

Lawrence.

He was born in Memphis, Tenn., August 15, 1914, the son of Frederick and

Louise Rodgers Lawrence.

A resident of Newtown since 1963, Mr Lawrence lived at Hunting Ridge Road

until moving to Sandy Hook a year ago.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and continued his career for 20

years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant.

Following his retirement from the military, Mr Lawrence was employed as an

executive with the Cigna Insurance Corporation.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, William Lawrence of Seattle, Wash.;

three daughters, Joanna Lawrence-Aamar of New Preston, Bette Piskura of

Roxbury, and Diane Lawrence-Gregory of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Robert

Lawrence of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Private funeral services will take place in Scituate, Mass., at the

convenience of the family.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph McIlrath, Sr

Joseph F. McIlrath, Sr, 66, brother of Leo E. McIlrath of Newtown, died April

2 at Bridgeport Hospital.

Mr McIlrath was the husband of Hazel Bock McIlrath of Danbury.

He was born in Danbury, January 31, 1932, a son of the late William A. and

Florence Harmon McIlrath.

Mr McIlrath was a lifetime Danbury resident who worked as a self-employed

general contractor. A graduate of Henry Abbott Regional Technical High School,

he served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 as a sentry at the Tomb of the

Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.

Besides his wife and brother, he is survived by two sons, Joseph F. McIlrath,

Jr, of South Windsor and Mark E. McIlrath of Rutherfordton, N.C.; two

daughters, Coleen Cavo of Danbury and Theresa McIlrath of Glastonbury; another

brother, William J. McIlrath of New Milford; a sister, Rita Murphy of Danbury;

five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Asthma Research, 45 Ash Street, Hartford 06810 or to Catholic Family &

Community Services, 30 Main Street, Danbury 06810.

Services were held April 4 at Central Christian Church, Danbury, with the Rev

Leo E. McIlrath and the Rev Crawford Harmon officiating. Burial took place in

St Peter's Cemetery, Danbury.
