ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
TREBLEHOOK, the trio featured two weekends ago at Newtown Coffee House and
then last weekend at St Paul's Coffee House in Woodbury, is filling its
performance schedule quickly these days. After the two performances just
mentioned, the group has attracted the attention of planners at Sweet
Harmony's Coffee House, at St Andrew's Church in Marble Dale. The guys -- Andy
Spencer, Brian Morgan and Alan Morgan -- have been booked for a May 14
performance at Sweet Harmony's. The coffee house begins at 8 pm that evening;
for details, call 860/868-2275.
There is also talk with the group about doing a cable TV special in the
Farmington area. Details will follow...
BUDDY GUY and Fabulous Thunderbirds founding member JIMMIE VAUGHAN will be at
the Oakdale in Wallingford on Thursday, June 24. Also performing with these
two will be 19-year old powerhouse blues vocalist SHEMEKIA COPELAND. Showtime
is 7:30 pm, and tickets are $31 and $41 each. For Oakdale tickets, contact the
theatre's box office directly, at 265-1501.
In a few weeks, the theatre will have more concerts becoming available,
including BRANDY, who will be performing on June 18 (tickets May 15); THE
BEACH BOYS, with Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, July 18 (tickets May 22);
ALABAMA, August 27 (tickets May 22); JETHRO TULL, August 29 (also May 22 for
tickets) and BB KING with KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD, TOWER OF POWER and INDIGENOUS,
September 15 (also May 22).
Tuxedo Junction has started something new. In The Living Room, the calmer
section of the Danbury nightclub, the club is now presenting live comedy every
Saturday night. Comedians will be featured who have been on David Letterman
and Jay Leno's shows, and HBO and Comedy Central specials. Admission is $10.
The laughs start at 8 pm each weekend, and reservations are required. For
additional information, call the club at 748-2561 extension 16.
Also at Tuxedo Junction, FUEL has been added to the schedule with a May 20
concert. Vergo's Merlot and Finger Eleven will both perform opening sets. The
show is open to all ages.
I have to admit I was stunned -- stunned!! -- when MOTLEY CRUE not only played
at the Oakdale Theatre last November, but (this is where the surprising part
came into play) also sold out the show!
For fans who can't get enough of the group, Motley Crue is one of four shows
that will be going on sale for The Meadows in Hartford on Saturday morning.
The Crue is splitting a bill with THE SCORPIONS on Saturday, July 3. Tickets
are $18.50 to $41 for that show.
Also going on sale will be J. GEILS BAND, June 26, $23-$48.50; THE ALLMAN
BROTHERS BAND, June 27, $23-$41.50; and BARENAKED LADIES, August 1,
$26-$33.50.
While on the subject of The Meadows and stunning things, I'll also mention
that limited tickets for both DAVE MATTHEWS BAND shows (August 6-7) and the
August 31 JIMMY BUFFETT show are also available. New announcements for the May
31 radio 104Fest/Big Ass BBQ, also at the Hartford venue, include LIVE as the
big headliner on May 31, and LUCINDA WILLIAMS is opening the Tom Petty show on
June 29.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
