Laura Ann Plitnik to Steven Gavlik

 Michael A. Plitnik of Newtown announces the engagement of his daughter, Laura Ann Plitnik, to Steven Gavlik, son of John and Elaine Gavlik of Hicksville, N.Y. Ms Plitnik is also the daughter of the late Linda (Havunoja) Plitnik.

The future bride graduated from Newtown High School in 1996 and the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s of science in geology and geologic oceanography.

The future groom graduated from Hicksville High School in 1990, Southampton College of LIU with a bachelor’s of science in marine science, and the University of South Carolina, Columbia, with a master’s of science in marine science. He is currently pursuing a PhD in oceanography at the University of Rhode Island Narragansett Bay campus.

A July 2001 wedding is planned.
