Do What It Takes

To the Editor:

I am having trouble understanding the situation regarding Carolee Mason, our animal control officer. Without any doubt, Ms Mason is gifted at the part of her job that really counts, which is dealing with animals.

Anyone who has seen her in action, read about her in the paper, or been on either end of a lost/found animal knows that Ms Mason is superb, both with the human and nonhuman animals she must deal with on a daily basis.

So why was she fired, reinstated when she appealed, and has now apparently been told she is not capable after all of doing her job? Is her job description written in stone? Not everyone has every skill in the book. Surely there is room for reapportioning duties among kennel staff members. I have done this in my office in order to retain a superb employee and with a little creative thinking it could be done in Newtown.

I respectfully appeal to First Selectman Borst and Chief Kehoe to consider this possibility and do whatever it takes to retain the best animal control officer ever.

Sincerely,

Marjorie Cramer, MD
