Annual BBQ In Roxbury This Weekend

ROXBURY — People drive in from all over Litchfield and Fairfield counties each year to enjoy one of the most traditional events of a small New England village: the annual Roxbury Congregational Beef Barbecue.

Janice and Bill Steers and Nancy and Fred Karl, with the assistance of over 60 volunteers from the church and community, will host this year’s presentation of the 38th Annual Beef BBQ, an evening of delicious food and charming country ambiance, on Saturday, August 26. The BBQ will run from 5:30 to 7 pm at the church, on Route 133.

The beef is roasted slowly over a charcoal pit. A secret, mouth watering BBQ sauce is applied to help keep the meat juicy and tender. Fresh picked corn on the cob comes from Roxbury’s Maple Bank Farm. Early that morning, as in all the years past, the ladies of the Church meet to cut vegetables for the fresh coleslaw.

Dessert is ice cream topped with homemade hot fudge and butterscotch sauces, as well as a selection of homemade cookies baked by families within the church community.

Cost for dinner is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for high school students, and $6.50 for younger children. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. Call Bill and Jan Steers (860/354-7210) or Nancy and Fred Karl (860/355-1870) for additional information.
