Magadini’s ‘Point Of View’ A Major New Exhibit

NEW MILFORD — Christopher M. Magadini of Armonk, N.Y., an award-winning illustrator turned artist, will have a one-man show of his oil paintings beginning Saturday, August 26, at Gregory James Gallery. The show runs through September 20.

Entitled “A Point of View,” the show will feature more than 40 Magadini canvases, all recent work, including landscape paintings done on location in rural Connecticut as well as several from his trip this spring to Tuscany.

Also on exhibit will be Mr Magadini’s new figure paintings and still lifes. In all of these oils, Mr Magadini’s take full advantage of the medium’s wonderful qualities. No matter the size, 4 by 6-inch up to 30 inch by 40-inches, the new work exhibits a rich painterly surface enhanced by masterful brushwork. His stated goal of “capturing the illusion of space and form while retaining a beautiful and interesting surface” is revealed in these paintings.

On Saturday, September 9, from 4 to 7 pm, Mr Magadini will be present at the gallery to greet the public at a catered reception.

Greg Mullen, the owner of Gregory James Gallery has said of Mr Magadini, “From the moment I first set eyes on Chris’ diverse work, I was hoping to have the opportunity to exhibit his paintings. His excellent draftsmanship, vibrant palette and generous brush will appeal to a wide range of collectors.”

Mr Magadini said, “Each artist brings to his work a personal point of view. What he or she feels or thinks about a subject will be reflected in the work. For me, painting is not simply the replication of what the eye sees. It is the creation of an image that embodies my thoughts and feelings. In short, it’s my point of view.”

In recent years, Mr Magadini has become known as a plein air painter: he prefers to work on his landscapes on site, outdoors. His growing popularity has brought avid collectors to galleries where his work has been exhibited worldwide. As an illustrator, Mr Magadini’s credits include covers for Reader’s Digest magazine, illustrations and promotional brochures for Reader’s Digest Books, and illustrations for Guideposts, Angels, Field & Stream, Boating, Audubon, Flying, Women’s Day, Scholastic Books and Zebra Books.

Mr Magadini has taught at Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., and has been a guest lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He lives in Armonk, N.Y., and summers in the Adirondacks.

Gregory James Gallery is at 16 Bridge Street and can be reached by calling 860/354-3436. The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 6 pm; Thursday, 10 am to 8 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 5pm; and Sunday, 11 am to 4 pm.
