A Place For Skateboarders

To the Editor:

Building a skate park in Newtown has been a dream of mine since I started skating in the eighth grade. Since then, there has been a lot of hard work from everyone to raise funds and awareness as skateboarding became a relevant sport among our youth. I would like to personally thank anyone who has had a hand in helping us achieve our goal. If it wasn’t for your support, fellow skateboarders and I would still have our boards confiscated, be hassled by security guards, and have no legal place in Newtown to refine our skills.

During the final stages of the process I had tried to deter Newtown Park and Rec from choosing a precast skate park, but in the end I am grateful for all the hard work and motivation everyone has put into this project, namely Amy Mangold. If it wasn’t for her dedication, the skateboarders of Newtown would still be without a skate park.

Thank you everyone over the past decade for giving skateboarders a place to call home; it means a lot to me.
