*Tickets were still available earlier this week for a November 5 concert by JOAN BAEZ at The Shubert in New Haven. The announcement and on-sale for that particular show both came out of the Shubert’s office last Friday morning, so don’t holler at John Voket (who covered this column during my vacational absence last week) for missing that one.

Priced at $35 to $55 each, tickets for that concert can still be purchased through tickets.com.

*Newtown group THE DOUG WAHLBERG BAND will be part of a special event at The Palace Theatre in Danbury on September 17.

IAN HUNTER (frontman from Mott the Hoople and The Rant Band) will be headlining an evening that will celebrate the life of Steve Buccini, who battled cancer for two years before succumbing at the frighteningly young age of 40 just six weeks ago. Hunter will be performing a full set, which will be preceded by a set from The Doug Wahlberg Band.

Tickets are $45, and can be purchased through the theater’s website (www.ThePalaceDanbury.com) or by contacting the box office at 203-794-9944. Doors open at 7, and the show will begin at 8.

*This weekend, however, The Doug Wahlberg Band will be at the recently revamped Chao Chi American Eatery (the short-lived/former Chao Chao) at 1 Glen Road in Sandy Hook.

*THE ADULTS, another favorite band with local roots, has a few shows on its schedule for September. In addition to hosting open mic nights at The One-Eyed Pig on Thursdays, September 2 and 23 (8 pm start each week), the band will be headlining at 71 South Main Street on Sunday, September 12, when Newtown Hook & Ladder does a fundraiser it’s calling Firehouse Ride 2010.

Whether you’re a rider, passenger or otherwise, the public is invited to help Hook & Ladder raise funds for a new firehouse through a pig roast that will take place at The Pig. Riders will be leaving by mid-morning for a 40-mile ride, which will return to the restaurant and bar for a pig roast lunch and plenty of live music and raffles. Admission for the event is $30 per rider, $15 for a passenger, and $15 for the pig roast only.

Visit www.regonline.com/FireHouseRide to register, or do a search for the event’s Facebook page, Firehouse Ride 2010 for additional information.

Meanwhile, back to The Adults: In addition to the abovementioned gigs, The Adults will perform a live set on Saturday, September 4, at McLaughlin Vineyards in Sandy Hook, during the annual Grapes of Wrath bike race and outdoor festival. Whether you’ll be there as a rider or spectator, September is one of the best months to visit the Albert’s Hill Road winery.

Additionally, the band will be over at The Cookhouse in New Milford on Friday, October 15, and then at Proud Mary’s (at The Inn at Newtown) on Friday, October 22.

*OFF THE HOOK will be at Redding Roadhouse on Friday, August 27, starting at 9:30.

*Tickets for a November 4 show by ATREYO at The Webster in Hartford will be on sale Friday, August 24. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $24 the day of the show.

blessthefall, Chiodos, Architechs UK and Endless Hallway will each have opening sets.

Also no sale Friday morning will be tickets ($18 now, $20 day of) for a November 19 headlining gig by COMBICHRIST, with Aesthetic Perfection and Ivardensphere sharing opening duties.

Meanwhile, an October 7 performance in The Webster’s Underground by BAD RABBITS has been cancelled.

*If you have any free time this Sunday afternoon, Hot Shots Grille will be hosting a fundraiser for a Staten Island soldier who lost both legs and both arms when his vehicle set off a roadside bomb back on Easter Sunday 2009.

American Hero Fundraiser will take place from non to 9 pm at Hot Shots, 130 Mount Pleasant Road, and proceeds from the event will continue to add toward the $500,000 needed for a pair of organizations (The Stephen Siller FDNY Children’s Foundation and Building Homes For Heroes) to build a wheelchair accessible home for Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco. The injuries made the 22-year old the first quadruple amputee to survive the War on Terror.

Admission on Sunday is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 12 and under, and will include a pig roast and plenty of live music.

*SEAN HARKNESS will be at McLaughlin Vineyards for an evening show on Saturday, September 11. Tickets are $35, which includes a glass of wine or wine tastings (an added bonus: the first 20 people to register for this particular event will receive a free bottle of wine).

Reservations are required; call 203-426-1533 or visit McLaughlinVineyards to make yours.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
